Tulu proverb

I have recently come across a Tulu proverb which illustrates the value of our life.

Taret bareyina baravunu , iret poonjinda pova?

ತರೆಟ್  ಬರೆಯಿನ ಬರವುನು  , ಇರೆಟ್ ಪೂಜಿಂಡ ಪೋವ ?

Translation ---

Tare = ತರೆ  = forehead
bareyina = ಬರೆಯಿನ  = which is written
baravunu = ಬರವುನು = writing
ire = ಇರೆ = leaf
poojinda = ಪೂಜಿಂಡ = if we swipe
pova = ಪೋವ = will it get erased?

Summary ----

We , Hindus believe that our destiny ( future life ) is already written on our forehead by Brahma before our birth. We believe that our destiny can not be changed . Whatever is intended to happen , must happen. This proverb tells the same.
Ordinary handwriting can be erased just by swiping something vigorously.  But our destiny , which is handwriting of Brahma himself , if we try to erase it just by swiping a leaf on that , it can not be erased . Thats why , elders say " Man proposes and GOD disposes. " 

Murders by cat

Yes , this was the story in Saturday's adaalat serial.

KD proved that cat did not do murders , but circumstances were such that the presence of cat was there in every murder scene.

But KD proved that if a cat comes in contact with a person , it will shed its hairs on them . But there was nothing like that on dead bodies.

I wanted to check this fact.

Gunda , our neighbour's tomcat did not meet me yesterday . Today morning , he showed his face . I thought this is the time to check.

I grabbed him and made him to sit on my lap. He was very happy by seeing the sudden shower of love over him . ! He slept in no time.

Now I am in a fix. I do not want to wake him up . But what about my experiment ?!

That time , my mother opened a box and took out a packet of chips. Gunda had a good sense of smell , he can figure out eatables even he is sleeping !

Suddenly he jumped from my lap and went inside the house searching for the source of sound ! I started checking my dress.










There were hairs , but not so many as shown in serial .

Why do mobile / internet signals get disturbed when it rains?

I have observed it . When it rains , there is distortion in both mobile and internet signals. Mobile / internet signals we use are through wireless communications.

They make use of electro - magnetic waves to send signals through long distances. Rain attenuation is a problem in wireless communications . Rain , fog , ice crystals , snow all will absorb some of the signals , they can also scatter the waves.

This causes drop in the strength of signal or attenuation . 

Because of this , we experiance disturbance when receiving the signals when it is raining.

Kapil made my day !

Yesterday I was feeling gloomy. Since morning , it was raining. I was alone in the house whole day. Not interested to do any thing.

That time , as I always do , I switched on computer and started searching for " Comedy Nights With Kapil  " . I watched the 19th July episode of Comedy Nights having Pathan brothers as guests.

I always do things differently !

Finally Kapil made my day with his episode full of laughter . Kapil started his show , talking about game of golf . He said some funny facts to which even the professional golfers must agree .

Then came the guests of show , Pathan brothers , both are cricketers , elder one --- Yousuf Pathan is a batsman and the younger one -- Irfan Pathan is a bowler .

Then started the various comedy acts. Kapil asked the brothers to describe each other . Irfan said lot of good words about his brother . When Yousuf was asked he said " Irfan talks too much "!

Throughout the episode , it was Irfan who talked and Yousuf was just a listener !

Then Kapil's turn too came .  The brothers asked Kapil to explain the cricket terms , fine leg , silly point and byes.

Kapil gave the most humorous answer to each question .

Then Daadi planned  " Swayamvar " of Irfan !

Whole episode was full of fun.

I watched the same episode ' n' number of times ,
where n varies from 1 to 3 !

When I switched off computer , I was still smiling , remembering the funny acts played on show . Please do not take trouble to compare me with a Sardarji !

Proud Tansen became humble

                                 Proud Tansen became humble

Tansen was the vocalist of King Akbar's court. He was very famous for his voice and the songs he sings. It was believed that he could light a lamp by just singing " deepak " raga of hindustani music. Everyone was praising his ability. This made him little proud.

Once a rich man had invited him to his house for an orchestra. Tansen went and gave the orchestra. After finishing the orchestra, rich man had offered him 500 gold coins.

But on top of gold coins he had placed a small black stone , which was not at all matching with gold coins. Tansen was furious by seeing this.

He felt insulted. Everyone were laughing. Tansen finally asked the rich man to explain the incident. Rich man said " I know you are a royal vocalist. Hence I offered you 500 gold coins for accepting my invitation. Black stone is for your singing !".

Tansen thought rich man must be joking. He challenged the rich man to show another man who can sing better than him. Rich man said he, himself can sing!

He started singing. It was so good that Tansen himself accepted the defeat and returned the gold coins to rich man.

Tansen learnt a lesson not to be proud of his talent.

Barsagu aavandi kode daayeg ?

ಬರ್ಸಗ್ ಆವಂದಿ ಕೊಡೆ ದಾಯೆಗ್ ?


Translation -----------

Barsa =    ಬರ್ಸ  = Rain
Avandi =    ಆವಂದಿ   = not useful
Kode =    ಕೊಡೆ    = umbrella
Daayeg =   ದಾಯೆಗ್    = why


Summary ------------

This saying states that the usefulness of a thing . Umbrella we use mainly in rainy season. It is also used to protect us from hot sun.
Main use in rainy season. If an umbrella is not coming handy in rainy season , then what is the use of it ? We require things to come in handy when situations are reverse to normal.
The other meaning is we must help a person when they are in need of it . Otherwise they dont need our help. At those times , our help doesnt worth also.

Barsa barande kappe bulpand

ಬರ್ಸ ಬರಂದೆ , ಕಪ್ಪೆ ಬುಲ್ಪಂದ್ 


Translation ----

Barsa = ಬರ್ಸ = rain
barande =   ಬರಂದೆ       = if not comes
kappe =  ಕಪ್ಪೆ   = frog
blpand =  ಬುಲ್ಪಂದ್   = won't croak



Summary ------


We know when it starts to rain , the frogs start croaking . We can conclude that croaking of frogs is the sign of beginning of rainy season.
This saying says the same.
The other meaning is , there are indications before some incidents happening . Yesterday itself I had read in newspaper that animals , birds and fishes can sense the outcome of an earthquake or tsunami. We can corelate this saying with that.

What is helicopter sibling / parenting ?

The term helicopter sibling or helicopter parenting is a widely used word nowadays.

Helicopter parents are the parents who are paying too much attention to their children's problems .

Helicopter siblings are the sisters/brothers who are over protective about their siblings in schools or in other places.

The term came in use since they ( either parents or siblings )  hover overhead always like a helicopter.

Modern day parents are too conservative about their children . If elder child thinks his / her's sibling is not cared enough by parents , he / she may turn into a helicopter sibling. 

My speciality

I always think myself as a " special girl " . Even neurologist and physiotherapist agree with me.

I walk with 4 legs !

Don't  think me as an alien . I have 2 of my own legs and the remaining 2 are my crutches .

Walking with crutches consists of a simple science.

It is the science of equilibrium !

Whenever I want to walk  holding crutches , these are the basic steps ----

1 . Left crutch , right foot forward
2 . Right crutch , left foot forward

Now the question arises , what if we miss the steps ? I mean to say what happens if we keep left crutch and left foot forward?

It will not do any difference until we can stand on our legs. But if the leg is injured  or weak , then missing the steps can result in a fall .

 This special knowledge was came into my mind when I was staring at the wall . ( Usually I do ).

I listened to song " Teri Galiyan " from the movie " Ek Villain ".

I listened to male version of song . What a song ! It was sung by Ankit Tiwari .

I liked the voice .

Heroin of the film , Shraddha Kapoor has sung the song in her voice.

But I prefer Ankit Tiwari's version .

Thrilling episode of " Adaalat "

Last week's " adaalat " serial's episode was worth watching.

How many twists it has taken ! I was guessing someone to be the culprit based on the informations showed on serial but everytime I was wrong !

It is the climax part where the real culprit was nailed by KD . It is one more example of our own family members turning foes .

It is one of the best episode of Adaalat .

I watched it today .

It was not my fault . I missed the original telecast on TV because of power failure in our area .

One month back , I was worrying that no rain in our area . But now rain has gained its charm back and I am having another difficulty.

No Power !

Story of Kamalashila temple

During rainy season. the river Kubja which flows near the temple of Brahmi Durgadevi at Kamalashile enters the temple and touches the feet of idol of goddess.
It happens in every rainy season.
There is a story behind this.
Long ago, there was an Apsara by the name Pingala. She was a dancer and she was entertaining the divine couple of Shiv - Parvati with her dance.
Pingala soon developed a feeling that without her dance, divine couple dont have other means of entertainment !
This made her little proud. One day she refused to dance.
This made Parvati angry and she cursed Pingala to get deformed as a dwarf ( Kubja in Sanskrit ) as Pingala was proud of herself.
With her deformation, Pingala returned to Earth and started doing meditation to please Parvati.
Days passed. Demons were creating trouble , sages found it difficult to do any religious rituals. Finally, they prayed to Parvati to eliminate the demons.
Parvati came to earth to kill the demons. She settled in KamalaShile on the request of sages. At that time, she came to know that Pingala is doing meditation in her deformed form. Pleased by Pingala's meditation, Parvati took her curse back.
But Pingala , wanted to serve Parvati. This made Parvati to transform Pingala as river Kubja ( dwarf ) and she assured Pingala that in every rainy season, river Kubja will be allowed to touch her feet in Kamalashile.

ಮುಸಲಧಾರೆ ಮಳೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕುಂಭ ದ್ರೋಣ ಮಳೆ

ಇವತ್ತಿನ ಪೇಪರಿನಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಂಬೈ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಂಭ ದ್ರೋಣ ಮಳೆ ಯ ಬಗ್ಗೆ ನ್ಯೂಸ್ ಇತ್ತು .  ಈ ಶಬ್ದಗಳ ಅರ್ಥ ನನಗೆ ತಿಳಿದಂತೆ ಈ ಕೆಳಗಿನಂತಿದೆ ---

ಮುಸಲ ಧಾರೆ ಮಳೆ  ----

ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತ ದಲ್ಲಿ ಮುಸಲ ಎಂದರೆ ಒನಕೆ . ಮುಸಲ ಧಾರೆ ಎಂದರೆ ಒನಕೆ ಯಷ್ಟು ದಪ್ಪನಾದ ಮಳೆಯ ಹನಿ ಗಳು .   ಇದು ಅತಿಶಯೋಕ್ತಿ ಅನಿಸಿದರೂ , ದಪ್ಪನಾದ ಮಳೆಯ ಹನಿಗಳಿಗೆ ಇದು ಸೂಕ್ತವಾದ ಪದ .


ಕುಂಭ ದ್ರೋಣ ಮಳೆ ----

ಸಂಸ್ಕೃತದಲ್ಲಿ ಕುಂಭ ಎಂದರೆ ಮಡಕೆ . ಒಂದು  ನೀರು ತುಂಬಿದ ಮಡಕೆಯಿಂದ ನಾವು  ನೀರನ್ನು ಕೆಳಗೆ ಚೆಲ್ಲಿದಾಗ  ಅದು ಯಾವ ರಭಸದಿಂದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಚೆಲ್ಲುತ್ತದೆಯೋ , ಅದೇ ರೀತಿ " ಧೋ " ಎಂದು ಸುರಿಯುವ ಮಳೆಗೆ ಈ ಹೆಸರು . ಕರಾವಳಿ ಯಲ್ಲೂ ಈಗ ಇಂತಹುದೇ ಮಳೆ . 

Tulu drama title

The name of this Tulu drama , recently I came across in newspaper. Tulu is a local language here and everyone speaks or atleast understands it.

Ellya vishaya malla malpodchi.

ಎಲ್ಯ ವಿಷಯ ಮಲ್ಲ ಮಲ್ಪೊಡ್ಚಿ   . 

Translation ---

elya = ಎಲ್ಯ = small
vishaya = ವಿಷಯ = matter
malla = ಮಲ್ಲ = big
malpodchi = ಮಲ್ಪೊಡ್ಚಿ = don't do

Summary = 

As it is obvious, it says that we must not take seriously silly or small matters.

Why does a straw appears to be broken in a glass of water?

Straw appears to be broken .  But it is actually not.

It appears like that because of refraction of light . 

Usually the light goes in a straight line. But if the light passes through different mediums , its path is bent or refracted.

Now we are looking at the straw through a glass of water. Light from the part of the straw which is underwater comes to our eye which is outside , I mean to say in outside air.

Here , light has to travel through 2 mediums i.e. water and then air. When light comes from water to air, it changes its direction i.e. refracted.

Light comes to eye from a slightly different angle , hence the straw looks bent . 

Whom to serve?

This happened when Gandhiji went to England to attend a conference . But he was not allowed inside since he was not wearing proper clothes.
He returned home. Next year itself , he got an invitation to attend a conference in England. This time, Gandhiji was very conscious regarding his clothes.
On the day of conference , he wore formal dress and went to attend the conference. Conference went on smoothly.
After the conference, there was dinner arranged to everyone. Gandhiji went to dining room and sat on dining chair.
Dinner was served. There were lot of dishes to eat. Gandhiji started spilling all the dishes on his dress . Everyone were surprised.
Gandhiji replied " I was allowed to conference hall because of these clothes. These clothes must get all the treatment which is meant for me . "
Soon organizers understood what Gandhiji meant to say.

ಕೊನೆಗೂ ಬಂದ ಮಳೆ

                                   
ಮಳೆ ಇಲ್ಲದೆ ಕಂಗಾಲಾಗಿದ್ದ ಜನರ ಮೊರೆಗೆ ಓಗೊಟ್ಟು ಕರಾವಳಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಕಳೆದ ೪ ದಿನದಿಂದ ಸುರಿಯುತ್ತಿರುವ ಮಳೆಗೆ , ಈ ಕವನ ಅರ್ಪಣೆ .

ರಾತ್ರಿಯಿಂದ ಸುರಿಯುತಿಹಿದು ಮಳೆ 
ತಮ್ಮದೇ ಮನೆಯೆಂದು ಓಡಾಡಿಕೊಂಡಿದ್ದ ಸೊಳ್ಳೆಗಳು ಹೊರಟಿವೆ ಗುಳೆ !
ತೋಟದಲ್ಲಿ ಬೆಳೆಯುತಿಹುದು ಬೇಡದ ಗಿಡ , ಅದುವೇ ಕಳೆ 
ಎಲ್ಲಾ ಕಡೆ ತಂಪಾಗಿದೆ , ಕೆನ್ನೀರಿನಿಂದ ತೊಯ್ದಿದೆ ಈ ಇಳೆ . 

Why do we get goose bumps when it is cold ?

Yesterday whole night it had rained in our area . Hence , whole surrounding is cool and chill .
Morning I got up and went to bathroom . I splashed water .





No .... No.....



Not on others !






On me . Because I went to bathroom .


As water drops fell on my legs , I shivered . I didnt know water has become cooler . Usually it wont since it is hot throughout day .

Suddenly , I noticed the hairs on my leg are standing erect and the area below them is swollen a little . I know all of us have observed it . But mine is special as I am writing this blog article !

Now I started wondering about this . Soon my skin regained its previous shape . This perticular phenomena is called goose bumps .

I had seen Gunda , neighbour's tomcat . When he was fighting with other cats , even his body hairs were standing erect like a straight pin .

Now coming back to goose bumps in humans ,


When its hot we need to cool down . Little hairs and muscles at the base of each hair relax . Sweat glands pump out body heat as sweat .


But when it is cold , the muscles pull the hair up . Blood vessels also get small to save heat .

Hair standing up in our body , doesnt make good insulation against heat . Millions of years ago , we had lot of fur on our body . That time , working of these little muscles helped humans to feel warmer by goose bumps .

Now as humans evolved , those extra fur got vanished but those muscles didnt forget their work of goose bumps when it is cold .

Cold is not the only thing to cause goose bumps . Fear or anger causes the same as happened with Gunda .

Why does hot water freezes faster than cold water?

           Why does hot water freezes faster than cold water?

If we keep the cans of hot water and cold water , both in freezer , the can of hot water freezes faster then cold water.
The can of hot water undergoes endothermic reaction i.e. evaporation. As a molecule of water evaporates, it leaves the surface of water and flies to atmosphere.
This means that there is less amount of water left, to get freeze since most of it evaporates. Because of this, compared to the can of cold water which is kept to freeze, there is less water now in hot water can. Hence, it will freeze fast.

Is doing war , remedy for getting peace of mind?

This incident was happened when Alexander , the great was planning to go for winning the world. He and his army had made preparations for that.

Before leaving , Alexander consulted a well known philosopher of Greece. That time, he was taking rest in his foreground of house with his pet dog.

Alexander said that he is going to win the world. Philosopher asked by doing so, what will Alexander achieve ?

Alexander replied that he will get Peace of mind with the fact that he has won the whole world. That time, philosopher looked at his dog which was sleeping on ground without any tension . He said " Why are you sleeping ? To get peace of mind and to relieve our tension , it is necessary to win other countries. After that , you can have a sound sleep ! "

Listening to that , Alexander realised that his efforts are going in vain. But now he can not step back. He had done all the necessary preparation too.

He continued with his plan but died in between .

How do fingernails grow?

Fingernails and toenails grow from a point near the roots below the skin , i. e. the base of the nail where the nail is very thin.
Nails comprise of a group of cells which manufacture keratin , a hoof like protein. It gathers in the nail plate, and it pushes the entire nail up.
The skin contains elastic fibres , hold it firmly in place. This also protects it from bacterial infections and also serve as a shock absorber.
We cut only dead cells which come up as nail and we dont feel pain. But if we cut deeply it hurts, sometimes it may bleed too.
By seeing the colour of fingernails , doctors figure out many problems.

ಇದು ನಾನಿಟ್ಟ ಹೆಸರು . ನನ್ನ ತಾಯಿ ಮಾಡುವುದನ್ನು ನೋಡಿದೆ .

ಅಚ್ಚ ಖಾರದ ಪುಡಿ ಮತ್ತು ಗರಂ ಮಸಾಲ - ಖಾರಕ್ಕೆ
ಕಾದ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ಕಲಸಲು ನೀರು
ಕರಿಯಲು ಎಣ್ಣೆ

ವಿಧಾನ 

ಮೊದಲು ಒಂದು ಬೌಲ್ ನಲ್ಲಿ ಹಸಿ ಕಡ್ಲೇಕಾಯಿ ಬೀಜ ಮತ್ತು ಕಡ್ಲೆ ಹಿಟ್ಟನ್ನು ಬೆರೆಸಿ . ( ಕಡ್ಲೆ ಹಿಟ್ಟು ಹೆಚ್ಚು ಬೇಡ ). ನಂತರ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಅರಿಸಿನ , ಉಪ್ಪು , ಅಚ್ಚ ಖಾರದ ಪುಡಿ ಮತ್ತು ಗರಂ ಮಸಾಲ ಸೇರಿಸಿ . ನಂತರ ಇದಕ್ಕೆ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಕಾದ ಎಣ್ಣೆ ಮತ್ತು ನೀರನ್ನು ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಕಲಸಬೇಕು .
ಕಾದ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಈ ಕಲಸಿದ ಕಡ್ಲೆ ಬೀಜಗಳನ್ನು ಡೀಪ್ ಫ್ರೈ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು .
