What is muscle fatigue ?

Yesterday I was doing physiotherapy exercise under the supervision of a physiotherapist . As I was doing exercise, suddenly I observed that my left leg was shaking by itself .


Curious about that , I asked the physiotherapist what is happening with me ? She said it is muscle fatigue and asked me to take rest .


Fatigue is a feeling of tiredness or exhaustion or need to rest because of lack of energy or strength.

Fatigue that lasts longer than 2 weeks , requires a visit to doctor .

Always eat like an animal !

Yes , we all must eat like animals . We must not live to eat . We must eat to live .

Animals , take lion itself as an example , if lion catches a large buffalo while hunting and kills it , it just eats only to quench its hunger and just leave the remaining part as it is .

It will not show greediness that large amount of food lies infront and it must eat all of them.

But we humans , act as if we are living just to eat . I agree it is not good to waste food . But in beginning itself , if we just serve the food just to quench our hunger , then the left over food can be destributed between the needy.

That's why we must eat like animals .

The punishments given for the crime

Long ago , in a village there was a merchant named Dhananjay . He had a grocery shop . He mainly sells ghee in the shop.

But he was a cheat . He was selling adulterated ghee in the shop. If he has 15 barrels of pure ghee , he was mixing impurities to them and making the barrels amount to 50 and was selling this ghee to customers who were coming to his shop.

Once , people sensed something fishy in his shop. Soon they caught his crime. They complained near the King against him.

Even King also convinced of Dhananjay's fault . He gave the verdict as Dhananjay is guilty and has to face the punishment. King gave Dhananjay 3 types of punishments to choose from . Out of them , for one he can undergo punishment .

The choices were ---------

1. Dhananjay has to drink ghee from 15 barrels of ghee from his shop.

2 . Dhananjay has to get 100 lashes from the whip.

3. Dhananjay has to pay 1000 gold coins for his fault and must give pure ghee from nowonwards.

Dhananjay thought for a moment. He thought Giving 1000 gold coins would be a huge sum for him to pay . 100 lashes from whip would be too painful. He concluded that drinking ghee would be fine for him and he said that he will undergo for first punishment.

Soon 15 barrels of ghee from Dhananjay's own shop were arranged . Dhananjay started to drink ghee . But soon he fell sick by drinking adulterated ghee. When he realised that he can't drink anymore ghee , he preferred 2nd punishment to undergo.

Soon whip was arranged and Dhananjay got ready to receive the lashes. But soon after receiving just 5 lashes , he laid down himself on ground and begged for mercy with the King and said that he is ready to pay 1000 gold coins to state.

Like this , Dhananjay received all the 3 punishments which were put infront of him . Finally he learnt a good lesson !

Why is foam of different colour soaps , always white ?

We use different colour of soap to bath. No matter what is the colour of soap, the foam we get is always white. Why is it so ?

No substance has its own colour. We see a substance of a particular colour depending on whether it absorbs or reflects the light spectrum falling on it. In other words, light spectrum is made of 7 colours : violet , indigo , blue , green , yellow , orange , red . When light falls on a substance, it will either reflect or absorb anyone or combination of colours. For ex, a green leaf reflects only the green wavelength of light spectrum and hence looks green . Similarly for blue colour of sky , red rose etc . Sometimes we see colours other than above said like pink . This may be due to combination of colours. Foam of soap is large bunch of bubbles which is made up of thin soap solution and some air . If the bubbles don't reflect any perticular colour ,then this state of colorlessness is called WHITE COLOUR . That's why foam is white. Now what if a substance absorb all the colours ? IT RESULT IN THE COLOUR BLACK . Remember black holes? They don't allow anything to pass through them because of their gravity hence look black .

Rail fracture

Yesterday Indore and Patna express train got derailed resulting in many deaths and injuries to many passengers who were traveling in the train. It is indeed a great tragedy . Rail fracture is said to be the cause of the accident .

I have heard about bone fracture . But the term rail fracture is new to me. I was curious to know what it is .

The steel rails found in railway track are strong and durable . They can safely carry many hundreds of thousands of tonnes of traffic in their life time .


Small defects may be present in rails at the time of manufacture or while installing them and went unnoticed . These small defects may grow as more trains pass over and finally result in the breakage of rails .


Most broken rails occurs in winter season . In very cold conditions rails may be five degrees below the air temperature . This puts the rails under lots of tension and they become more vulnerable to breakage at the point of defects as trains pass over them .





What we can do to prevent rail breakage ?

1 . By regularly removing the small defects from the rails by grinding the surface .

2.  If a track is heavily used , then more frequent examination has to be done .

3.  The bolted joints between the rails have to be replaced with welded joints .


4 . The rails in the problem area must be replaced with new rails which can withstand higher worn out.

Summary ----


This saying says what happens if we make contacts with bad people.

Here is an example of a pig and a calf. Both have different food habits. Pig is always seen munching the excretory product of animals whereas calf is vegetarian.

If calf makes friendship with pig and prefers to stay with it , then calf has to get adjust with pig's food habits too. It has to start eating excretory product of animals.

Likewise , if we get close to people with bad habits and always stay with them , naturally we also get used to habits of theirs . That's why elders advise us to always stay in contact with good people. 

Unite we work , everything is easier !

It was a classroom . About 50 students were waiting for their teacher. Because on that day, teacher said that he will tell something through demonstration. Everyone were excited about that. There , the teacher entered the class.

After greeting each other, he asked the students to take a small piece of paper and to write their name on that.

Students did the same. Teacher collected each and every piece of paper and held them closed in his palm. He asked the students to wait outside the class room.

No one had an idea what does the teacher about to do. All went out. Now , teacher switched on the fan and opened his palm.

Now the pieces , flew in the air and settled themselves in every corner of room. Now teacher asked the students to come into class and serch for the pieces containing their respective names and he had given them 5 minutes of time.

Students started searching. But no one could find out the piece carrying his own name. Time was over. Students were disheartened that they could not do a silly task.

Seeing their face, teacher had come to know the result. Now he said , they can start the search afresh and now they can hand over the piece carrying the name to respective person. For this task too, he has given 5 minutes of time.

Students , whatever they caught hold of the piece , read the name written on it and handed over the piece to respective person. Soon , they all had got their respective slips in no time !

Teacher smiled at them and said if we do a work unitedly instead of doing it alone, that work would be easier to do. 

Quick and easy recipe : bread chat

This recipe don't require the use of fire . Hence it is very easy to prepare. Though it is a chat item , it can be prepared without using chat masala .


Required ingredients  :


Bread ( sweet or plain )
Curd
Chilly powder
Salt and sugar ( as per taste )
Onion , tomato , coriander leaves : for garnishing
Sev


Method to prepare :

Add little water to curd and make it watery . Now add chilly powder , sugar and salt and mix them well. Now soak the bread in this mixture and put it in a plate . Now put some of the mixture on bread. Above that do garnishing by placing tomato and onion slices and also the coriander leaves .  Put sev above . Its ready to serve .

Sweet death

This term refers to the death by carbon monoxide ( CO ) poisoning as inhaling the carbon monoxide gas results in unconsciousness and then death .



How carbon monoxide gas is produced ?

Science tells us that if the fuel burns incompletely  , that time carbon monoxide gas is formed. Let me explain with an example .


If we start burning a fuel of any kind in a closed container , fuel starts burning completely only till oxygen is present in closed container.

This results in decreasing oxygen and increasing carbon dioxide . There comes a point where all oxygen has become empty. Now incomplete combustion of fuel starts and carbon monoxide gas forms.


If we inhale carbon monoxide gas , it will directly get attached with haemoglobin of blood instead of oxygen . When this carboxy haemoglobin reach cells , they suffer by absence of oxygen and die .


This condition results in unconsciousness . Still inhaling the gas results in death .


How to avoid this situation ?


We have to make sure that combustion always takes place in fully ventilated area thereby ensuring the good circulation of oxygen gas . Very common area of combustion in house is bathroom where gas geyser is installed to get hot water.

 The gas geysers should be maintained well by cleaning the exhaust pathways thereby ensuring no accumulation of harmful chemicals and gases taking place .

These gas geysers should be always installed in a fully ventilated area having windows and ventilators .

Ravan as king of Ayodhya !

Yes , I have written the title of article with full sense of my mind ! The title may sound weird but it was going to be a reality .

Now let us come to point .

Those were the days when Sri Ram had reached Lanka with his monkey army . He had come to know that king of Lanka , Ravan had kidnapped his wife , Sita and held her as captive .

Now Ravan is forcing Sita to marry him . Ravan is already.married . His wife Mandodari , brother Vibhishan and everyone else had tried to convince Ravan saying that it is not right to abduct someone's wife and forcing her for marriage .

But Ravan is adamant . He didn't listen to anyone . His brother Vibhishan was fed up of Ravan's adamant nature and joined Sri Ram's party .

Sri Ram gave assurance to Vibhishan that since he has come near him realizing what is right and what is wrong , he will appoint Vibhishan as future king of Lanka .

Members of monkey army are unsatisfied with Ram's words . They asked Ram in a sarcastic manner "  what if Ravan himself come near Ram apologizing for his fault ? "

That time Sri Ram replied that in that case , he would appoint Ravan as king of Ayodhya itself as he realised his fault . Everyone should be given a chance to change themselves when they repent for their fault from bottom of their heart .


But as all of us know , Ravan opted to fight with Sri Ram and Ramayana happened .

Ozone , a double edged sword .....

We often hear about depletion of ozone layer . It is because of industrialization and reports say that green house effect will happen soon.

Whenever I was reading this news , I was thinking that if the ozone layer is depleting , why don't we try to produce ozone at ground level and then move it to space like we send satellites ?

Ozone is good up-high and bad nearby . That's why I called it as a double edged sword .

Let me explain ------





Atmosphere of earth is having layers. The layer closest to earth is troposphere . Here the found ozone is an air pollutant that is harmful to breathe and it damages crops , trees and other vegetation. It is the main ingredient of urban SMOG ( smoke + fog )


The layer troposphere extends upto 6 miles up. Then comes the layer stratosphere . Here ozone changes its mind and now protects the creatures of earth by sun's harmful UV rays .

This explains why ozone is a double edged sword .

Why do we have eyebrows ?

We all have eyebrows . Some people have bushy eyebrows and some  ( specially girls ) have eyebrows which are cut into various rainbow shapes .

But without eyebrows , a person lacks his appearance.
Eyebrows play a significant role in beauty , non verbal communications and also the appearance of a person .

We know that eyebrows help in keeping moisture out of our eyes when we sweat or walk in rain . The arch shape of eyebrows diverts rain or sweat , to the extreme sides of our eye keeping them almost dry.

CONCLUSION :


Work of eyebrows make a significant difference in our ability to see by diverting the moisture or sweat away from eyes . It also acts as a barrier to UV ( ultraviolet rays ) from reaching directly to eyes .

One minute of bad thought changed whole scene !

Avinash was a famous builder in the city . The apartments constructed by him were regarded as safest to live in .

Many engineers were working under his company . Rahul was one among them . Even Rahul wanted to be a builder in realty business . Avinash had known about the secret ambition of Rahul . But he was trying to retain him in his company.

Rahul wanted to start  his own business. But if he says the same near Avinash , Avinash will not let him to do that . That's why , Rahul lied to Avinash saying that he want to go to his own town and will look after the poultry business of his father .

Avinash didn't doubt Rahul's words . But he said leaving the job , would cost him dearly in the future. But Rahul was adamant .

Finally , Avinash agreed . But he wanted Rahul to do a favour . Avinash wanted Rahul to build a final building .

Rahul could not say NO. He agreed and started working on it . But suddenly a bad thought came to his mind . Why should he work so hard ? Avinash is going to take the credits of Rahul's work . Rahul decided that he will not work with dedication as he was used to do earlier.

Finally , Rahul managed to complete the work of building somehow . But Rahul can not guarantee the safety of the building. Evil thought had occupied his mind . If anything bad happens , Avinash is going to be responsible for it . Why Rahul should worry ?

Rahul informed Avinash about the completion of work . Avinash came in person to see the building . After seeing the building , Avinash handed over the keys of building to Rahul saying that it is the gift from his side for the work Rahul has done all these years !

Now Rahul is in a fix . It is still a mystery whether Rahul had accepted the keys or not !

is nitrogen , an inert gas ?

The chemistry defines inert as little or no ability to react . But to say nitrogen as an inert gas , the answer is both Yes and No .


Nitrogen can be made to react . We often hear about nitrogen fixation by bacteria in soil using nitrogen gas of atmosphere. It enhances the fertility of soil by forming various nitrogen compounds . In this sense , nitrogen is not an inert gas .




Nitrogen as a gas is present in atmosphere under the formula N2 . There is a triple bond between the two atoms of N . This bond is very difficult to break as we need extreme conditions . So in this sense , it is an inert gas .

A humorous situation which reveals our mentality ......( from newspaper )

Recently I came across this article in kannada daily. I thought it would be a great way to analyse our mentality. 3 girls were traveling in a train. All of them were not having ticket to travel in the train. After some time , ticket collector ( tc ) comes . Now the interesting part happens . He comes near the girl who was wearing a saree . Obviously , she was not having the ticket . He fined her Rs 500 . Then he came near the second girl who was wearing a mini skirt . After realizing even she is not having a ticket , he fined her Rs 200 . Finally he came near the last girl . Even she was not having the ticket with her . But HE DIDN'T FINE HER . WHY ???? WHY ????? WHY ????? DON'T THINK TOO MUCH . !!!!!!!! She had a traveling PASS with her . !!!! I know what you had thought . !!! Because I had thought the same too . !!!!!!

Why tulsi is not offered to Lord Ganesh in puja ?

We Hindus believe leaves of tulsi plant as very sacred and we use it whenever we are offering prayers to God . But though we offer tulsi leaves to all gods specially to God Vishnu ; we don't offer tulsi leaves to God Ganesh . Why ???



It is because that tulsi and Ganesh are involved in mutual curse .


The story goes like this . Lord Ganesh was meditating on the banks of river Ganga . Tulsi was happened to pass by that way . She saw Ganesh meditating , fell in love with him instantly .


Unable to control her feelings , she disturbed Ganesh from his meditation . As angry Ganesh opened his eyes , saw tulsi standing infront of him .


Tulsi proposed to Ganesh . But Ganesh rejected the idea. Heart broken tulsi cursed Ganesh that he will get married against his wish of not getting married to anyone .


This made Ganesh angry too and he cursed tulsi to turn into a plant . By this time , tulsi realized her folly and asked for forgiveness.


Then pleased Ganesh assured tulsi that the leaves of plant will be believed sacred and will be used in each and every puja of God except HIS .



That time onwards , tulsi leaves are not offered to God Ganesh. 

Easy and simple chemistry experiment

This experiment is an example of decomposition and thus production of gas. Required Apparatus _--------- 1. A test tube 2. Potato pieces 3. Hydrogen peroxide liquid ( which is easily available in chemist shop and used as an antiseptic ) Procedure _-------- Take potato pieces in the test tube. Add little water to it. Now add hydrogen peroxide liquid to it. Soon we will observe lather coming up. Reason --------- When we are adding hydrogen peroxide liquid , it undergoes decomposition. Because of this, it gives oxygen and water as the byproducts. It is given by the equation ------                                           ^ 2H202 ------> 2H20 + 02 | Where H202 = hydrogen peroxide H20 = water 02 = oxygen gas As water is also the byproduct along with oxygen , we can observe the increase in water level in the test tube. The lather coming up is because of production of oxygen gas.

Punjabi songs in hindi movies

Recently I heard the song kaala chasma from the movie baar baar dekho. I just loved the song because of its tone and music. 



I could identify the voice of singer Baadshah in the song . I have become the great fan of Baadshah since I heard the song Abhi toh party shuru hui hai .
I even liked the song Ladki beautiful and Let's nacho from the movie kapoor and sons . I like the songs which have Punjabi words in them. They sound peppy dance numbers. 
The songs from the movie Tanu weds  Manu return are also my favourites. I believe they are also Punjabi songs as they make people to dance to their tone !
Wish I would be a Punjabi by birth !

Eating raw rajma is poisonous ......

Rajma is one among most nutritionally valuable vegetable food. They are high in protein, carbohydrates and many minerals while low in fat and cholesterol. But they also contain a protein that can be toxic in high sufficient quantities IF CONSUMED RAW . Rajma contain a toxic protein called phyto hemagglutinin. Now why do the plant is having this toxin? It is known as a pesticide and plants may have produced it to keep their seeds from being destroyed from pests. In humans, if rajma consumed raw, then it will result in severe vomiting and diarrhea. ,which may turn fatal if untreated. But they are not often eaten raw . They are usually dried and require several hours of cooking before they become soft enough to consume. That time, this protein is deactivated and reduced to safe levels for consumption. Don't eat rajma raw.

Aparna , a Hindu mythological character

I am not talking about the person named " Aparna " . I am writing this blog article to say where I have come across " Aparna " as a character in Hindu mythology . We all know that Sati is the wife of God Shiv . I know all will say Parvati is the wife of God Shiv . Even that is also true . Parvati is the reincarnation of Sati . Sati was the daughter of King Daksha . She has grown up by listening to the stories about God Shiv . She had decided to get married to God Shiv . But her father didn't agree with his daughter's decision . That's why Sati meditated or performed tapasya to please God Shiv . She was performing hard kind of tapasya . First she started tapasya by only eating leaves . Later she moved to the stage where she stopped eating leaves also. That time she was known by the name " Aparna " . In Sanskrit Parna means leaf . A - parna means without leaf as Sati performed tapasya by not eating even the leaf. She had pleased God Shiv . She got married to him against her father's consent . This made king Daksha to get angry . He was doing an auspicious ritual or homa . He invited each and every gods and angels . But he didn't invite God Shiv . Sati came to know of it . She wanted to participate in the ritual with her husband , God Shiv . But Shiv refused to accompany her as he was not invited and forbidden Sati also from attending . But Sati was adamant and went to attend the ritual alone . But king Daksha was furious by seeing Sati . He insulted both Sati and her husband God Shiv . Disheartened by her father's behaviour , Sati entered the fire ( set ablaze herself ). She was reincarnated as Parvati and later again married God Shiv .

Which hand is better when giving alms?

My granny used to say " When giving something to others, always use right hand ". Recently I came across a story which states it is a myth.

Once Sri Krishna and Karna sat together talking. That time, a person came and he wanted to have a word with Karna.

Daughter of that person is going to get married. As he is poor, he urgently need money. Since Karna is having a fame in helping others, he had come near Karna.

By listening to the story , Karna immediately took out the gold chain , he was wearing and gave it to that poor person by HIS LEFT HAND.

Poor man took the chain and went on his way. But Sri Krishna was unhappy after watching all these. He objected for Karna's deed of giving chain using his left hand. Krishna said " Poor man has come for help for an auspicious work. But you have given the chain using your left hand ! He might face problems because of this ".

Listening to that, Karna laughed. He said " When the poor man told his story , there was only one thing in my mind. i.e. to HELP HIM. I didnt think of what hand I am using at that moment. If I waste a single moment  at that time, my mind might get changed by another thought. Thats why I didnt care for which hand I am using . My intention was to help him. "

Moral : We must not wait when we are about to do some good to others.

The disguised enemy in armed forces .......

Please don't get alarmed ........ ! I am talking about the previous episode of " adaalat " serial which had the story line of a disguised enemy in our air force . The story goes like this ....... It is the area of " aksai chin " . This area is near to Ladaakh . It belongs to us means to our country . But our neighbour country China has occupied this and claims that aksai chin belongs to it . We , Indians are just protesting by mouth . China had created some bunkers ( as per serial story ) . Two of our airforce pilots were given the responsibility of destroying the target. They were successful in their mission. But when returning to base camp , one of the fighter plane was hit and thus got crashed . The missile which was responsible for the casualty was fired from the other fighter plane as only two fighter planes were present at that time. The survival pilot was held as the culprit. Now the blue prints of our airforce bases and also of various fighter planes and ammunition were seized from the room of culprit . Now he is charged as " traitor " . But the accused pilot denied all the charges against him though the evidences are against him . KD took the case as he is always fighting for truth and justice . KD proved the pilot innocent and was successful in relieving the dirty plot of China in demoralizing our brave soldiers by doing such cheap tricks of making suspicious of each other. I realized we ,Indians are surrounded with the neighbour countries who always doing the job of weakening the pillars of our country. Why don't China help flood victims of its own citizens instead of helping Pakistan in joint military exercises ? OUR NEIGHBOUR COUNTRIES MUST MIND THEIR OWN BUSINESS ........

Work ethics of Chanakya

Chanakya is believed to be an intelligent man . He could solve any problem by taking correct steps so that result would be in our favour .

He was the minister in King Chandra Gupta Mourya's court . Chinese travellers were visiting King's court .

Same way , a Chinese traveller had visited the court . He wanted to meet Chanakya . When he reached the house of Chanakya , traveller saw Chanakya writing something under the shade of oil lamp .

He waited till Chanakya finish his work . After that , he went inside to meet Chanakya . By seeing the traveller , Chanakya blew off the burning lamp . He went inside and came out with another lamp .

Traveller was puzzled by this . He asked Chanakya why did he blew off the previous lamp ? They could manage with that .

Chanakya replied , " The previous lamp was running by the oil I had purchased in people's tax money . I am using that lamp only for official work . Now you have come . You are my guest . Since it is not good to use that lamp for my personal work , I have blown off the lamp ."

This shows working ethics of Chanakya .

Examples of Boyle's law in day to day life

Boyle's law states that pressure is inversely proportional to volume if temperature is kept constant. The most common example of this law is ------- breathing . Surprised.      ?????? ?????? ?????? ?????? ?????? We expand our chest to breathe. Means volume is increased. According to law , pressure must decrease. With pressure being lower, air from outside enters our lungs. Means we inhale. When we exhale, we compress our chest. Now volume is decreased. As law states, pressure has to increase. This Increased pressure forces air out of our lungs.

A hungry stomach dont want lectures

Buddha's student was preaching infront of a man. But man seem to not paying attention.

Student tried many methods so that he can convince him.but the efforts are fruitless.

Disheartened he came near Buddha and said the whole story. Buddha wanted to meet the man.

As soon as the man came, Buddha asked him to have lunch. After that , buddha sat near him and asked him about his life and problems he is facing.

After listening to that, Buddha started to give solutions. Man listened to everything and said he will try to follow.

Student was surprised. Buddha replied " a hungry stomach thinks only of food. It is waste of time giving lectures infront of a starved man. We must come to know the root cause of someone's problem of not giving attention ".

KD's trick of using horse as witness ..... !

Last Saturday " adaalat " serial was the perfect example of how lawyer K. D. can use the silliest thing to make the truth to come out ......! The story started with a murder in the horse stable . A horse jockey who was present inside the stable at the time of murder was taken into custody. As no one else were in the stable than the horse jockey , his claim of innocence was not believed by many. But KD took the case . He solved the case proving innocence of horse jockey and also by nailing the real culprit. For this , he used the horse which was present at the site , as the witness ! Horse came to court to tell the evidence !!!! Even prosecution lawyer had the doubt that how a horse who can not speak , tell the evidence ?! KD proved that horse does know what is right and what is wrong . KD said as the horse can not speak , it will tap the floor once if the said thing is true otherwise twice if it is wrong . KD went on asking questions to horse . It went on tapping the floor if it is true or false , thus by revealing the entire mystery behind the case . DIFFICULT TO BELIEVE ?????? ??????? ??????? ???????? You are not alone .......... Even prosecution lawyer had the same doubt . Then KD explained that he has trained the horse in such a way that if he taps the  table once  , even horse has to tap the floor once .  If he taps the table twice , even horse has to tap the floor twice !!!!!! That's KD !!!!!!!

Positive attitude

Father has promised son that he will bring crackers on the eve of Diwali . As their home is in the outskirts of city , father said he will bring crackers when he is returning from his job.

But father was stuck between his office works. He had totally forgotten about his promise . In the house , son was waiting .....

Father returned home , exhausted . He was exhausted because he was stuck in the traffic when driving his car .But as soon as he saw his son's face , he remembered his promise and began to feel guilt for not able to fulfill the promise.

It was getting late . Father asked son to come with him to the city in the car to buy crackers. Son was very happy after listening to that.

Both climbed car . Father was driving fast as it was getting late . He was fearing that shops may close before they reach .

Alas , as they reach the city limit , they were welcomed by traffic. Father was fast driving so that he can skip traffic signal.

But at one junction , they were about to cross the signal , that time itself signal went red .! Now they have to wait till it gets green.

Father was losing his patience . He was looking at his wrist watch repeatedly . As soon as traffic light turned green , father started driving the car fast .

He wanted to skip the traffic signal of next junction and to reach the shop as soon as possible. But this time too, same thing happened . They were about to cross signal , signal turned RED ! Father was cursing his fate , but son was jumping with joy .

This made him angry. He asked his son to explain the reason . Son replied " We are the first one to cross the signal compared to others in queue . This is the second time that we are becoming winners . We had defeated other vehicles !"

That time , father turned back . He saw many vehicles standing in queue , waiting for signal to clear .He then realised whatever his son is telling true . This is the POSITIVE ATTITUDE OF MIND .

Why does salt dissolves in water faster than sugar ?

When we try to dissolve sugar in water , it needs constant stirring . But if we put salt into water , it just disappears in a fraction of second !

The chemical formula of salt is Na+Cl- . Chemical formula of water is H+2 O - . When we put salt into water , water molecules come between the ionic bonding of salt . Na gets attracted towards O atom of water and Cl towards H atom .

Thus solvation of salt in water occurs . Whereas in sugar , the molecules are quite big and compound . So , breaking of these bonds requires more energy .


This compound bond makes sugar to dissolve less in water . To make the process quick , constant stirring is required .

Salt because of its simple bond structure , dissolves faster in water .

Wives of god Kartikeya , god of war

Why does cheese have holes ?

Yesterday I was watching Tom and Jerry cartoon show on t.v. . There Jerry mouse was eyeing on a piece of cheese . That piece of cheese was having holes in it. As I am a keen observer of such silly things , I began to wonder why does cheese have holes ? The holes are made by the bubbles of gas produced by bacteria in fermentation process . When this fermentation process is carried out , long molecules of cheese are broken down into small , simpler and tastier molecules by the action of enzymes . At the same time , bacteria will produce carbonic gases which will result in the formation of holes just like our dosa .

Remembering Gunda ............

Gunda is not with me. He left me alone for ever. But his memories are still fresh with me. One such incident still make me to smile. ..... One day I was alone in the house. I was expecting my father to come. Hence I didn't latch the door but just closed it such a way that just by a small push , it would get open . I was in rest room . I heard Gunda's voice calling me. I shouted loudly from restroom and asked him to come later. After that, there was silence. I thought Gunda left. After completing my work, I came out of restroom. There he was , sitting on chair and waiting for me to come out ......... Gunda always understood my mood. Though our languages are different, it was not a problem for us. .......... ........ ......... .......... ......... But now he left me. I sometimes really wonder why didn't he tell a word , before leaving ...... I think he preferred to be a STRAY CAT than serving as a pet to some one   !!!!

Law makers should obey the laws

This incident happened when Lal Bahadur Shastri was the prime minister of India. Though he was a PM , Shastriji was very down to earth.

Once he had to travel to another place by catching a train. But because of work pressure , he was late when he had reached the railway station.

But in railway station , everyone were aware about Shastriji's travel. The railway guard who gives signal for the movement of trains, observed the car of Shastriji coming to railway station. But it was already late for the departure of train.

Guard thought if he gives green signal for the train movement, Shastriji would miss the train. Hence, he waited till Shastriji enters the platform. Shastriji was surprised to see the train still standing on platform as it was supposed to leave by this time.

Railway guard came forward and said proudly that he didnt give green signal to train. He was aware that Shastriji would travel in that train and Shastriji was late.

Guard was expecting Shastriji to be happy and give good remarks about him. But Shastriji was angry. He scolded guard for his work. He was very concerned about fellow passengers who had suffered the delay in train movement.

Shastriji believed that law makers should follow the laws . He didn't want any special arrangements for the fact that he was the PM .

Simple science experiment

Today I am writing about a simple science experiment. For this, no parental guidance is required ! Take water in a glass. Now put a straw inside the glass. Hold a straw outside the glass in hand. Now put both the straws in the mouth and try to suck water. WE CANNOT !!!! Though one straw is inside the glass and touching the water level, still we can't suck the water from either of straws. WHY ???.. Air is lighter than water. In scientific terms, density of air is less than that of water. So when we are trying to suck water, one straw in water and another in air, air being lighter than water, is easily sucked first inside the mouth through straw. Now our mouth is not empty. It is full of air. This air puts pressure on the entry of water. In other words, the space is already occupied by air and this air is not allowing the water to come inside. That's why we cannot suck water.

We get the same as we give ....

It is a small village . It has one bakery which sells mainly bread . Villagers were bringing bread for their daily use from the same bakery .

Bakery shop keeper had hired a farmer to supply him butter . Daily bakery shop keeper needs 1 kg of butter .  A farmer was giving the butter and in turn he was getting bread of same quantity . This was the practice which continued for years.

One day , bakery shop keeper was suspicious that whatever he is buying the butter , thought to be 1 kg , is not exactly 1 kg but less than that .

He weighed the butter . He was right ! It was just 700 gm instead of 1 kg . Bakery shop keeper realised that he was cheated by farmer all these years.

Bakery shop keeper complained in the court that farmer is cheating him . Farmer is telling butter weighs 1 kg , but it weighs less than that .

Farmer got summons. In the court , farmer was asked why is he selling the butter which weighs lesser than 1 kg saying it weighs 1 kg ?

Farmer replied " I don't have weighing machine . I am giving the same amount of butter as the bread , the bakery shop keeper gives. "!

Bakery shop keeper fell silent because now everyone has come to know that he is the one , who is cheating that weight of bread is 1 kg !

Uses of baking soda

Here I am not talking about how well we can prepare food using baking soda ! Instead I am telling about chemical nature of baking soda and how we can make use of it in our life. Baking soda is actually Sodium bicarbonate ( NaHCO3 ). It is alkaline in nature and exhibits the property of a base. Basic knowledge we know is if acid and base come in contact with each other, they will neutralise the effect of each other. Now we will see how can we make use of this in our daily life. 1. During summer, chances of milk getting spoiled is more. Now we will look into scientific reason for this. Milk is basically made of LACTIC ACID. If we don't boil the milk in summer, bacteria will soon grow up in the acidic environment and milk gets spoiled. As baking soda is alkaline in nature, we can mix it with milk and prevent it from getting spoiled. 2. When ants bite us or honeybees stung us, we will suffer from pain and burning sensation. What exactly causes it? When ants bite us or honeybees stung us, they inject FOLIC ACID on our skin which causes burning sensation. As baking soda is alkaline in nature , we can use it as a first aid on the wound. 3. It is scientifically proven that whenever the pH of mouth gets below 5.5 , or in other words when mouth becomes acidic then bacteria get active and cause dental cavities. By rinsing our mouth with baking soda after lunch , we can be safe from dental cavities because of its alkaline nature. No....... No...... NO CLAPS PLEASE !!!!!!

Miracles DO happen !

It was the day of final match of T20 world cup between West Indies and England yesterday . As I said earlier I have the special powers to predict the results . When I came to know that West Indies had won the toss and chose to field first , that time itself I knew West Indies will win the match ! Game started . I was not interested to watch as I have already know the result ! But I came to know that England has given the target of 155 runs to West Indies to chase . I was anxious to watch Chris Gayle batting when West Indies started their turn . But I switched off t.v. after West Indies score was 9 runs for 3 wickets . This implies Chris Gayle was out and also the heroes of match against India . I thought West Indies may not reach the total of 100 as the pressure was building up on them . I started watching pogo channel . I didn't watch rest of the match . By reading newspaper's sport section , I came to know that West Indies needed 19 runs from final over to win the match . That means 19 runs from 6 balls . Then miracle happened ! West Indies batsman , Brathwaite , has hit continues 4 Sixers . Now that means 4*6 = 24 runs . West Indies have won the match . As usual I am waiting for the highlights of the match to come on tv !

It all started when West Indies chose to bowl first after winning the toss ,

India posted a huge target but had to suffer , the match loss .

Backyard of my house has become a little forest !

Yesterday there was no power in my house in the evening . As our place is in coastal area , it is very difficult to sit inside the house . So no other way for me . I had to go outside and sit in our backyard . I made myself comfortable by sitting on a chair . My father was watering the plants . Now question arises why didn't I helped him in the work instead of sitting on chair . I can't stand without support . As I was watching the surroundings , I observed two cranes coming flying to our backyard . They had come to drink water which was stored near the plants . They were so comfortable as I was sitting like a stone and watching them . Soon came a peacock . ! It was searching for worms . The list don't end here . There were crows too who had come to take bath ! All were doing their work though they were aware of my presence . That time itself , 3 cats also entered the scene . They directly came near me as soon as I called them . There came " cheev , cheev " sound . It is of squirrel . There came flying " kuppala " ( tulu word as I don't know English equivalent ) . There were millipedes too . Phew! I still think I left some one very important . It is not complete without mentioning the frequent visitors of our backyard, MONKEYS ! I still wonder why do they still come to our house , as they have already finished all the tender coconuts on coconut trees !

Why do I get irked when India loses cricket match ?

Yesterday was the day of first T20 cricket match of Indian cricket team . It was against New Zealand cricket team . As India had won the previous T20 matches against its opponents I had high expectations. New Zealand chose to bat first. I was very happy by watching its first 3 batsmen were out just by scoring single digits . Even Indian fielding was good . Finally New Zealand completed it's quota by scoring 126 runs . I was over enthusiastic to watch India batting as we have a strong batting line-up . When India started battling , Shikhar Dhawan was out . Then Rohit Sharma and Suresh Raina all for single digits ! I remembered I was happy watching New Zealand batsmen got dismissed for single digits . I thought Dhoni and Kohli together will guide India to reach the target . But when Kohli got out , I switched off t.v. . WHY ?????? ?????? ????? I have developed special powers of guessing the future ! Same thing happened . India lost the match . I was irked as I had high expectations on Indian cricket team .

Birbal caught the thief

Once King Akbar has lost his precious ring in his packed court , He was worried as it was the gift from his father .

By seeing his worried face , Birbal asked for reason . Akbar said he has lost the ring given to him by his father as a gift in the court and it is very difficult to find it in the packed court.

Birbal promised Akbar that he will find the ring . Soon Birbal made an announcement in the court saying that " King has lost his ring . We have identified the man who has taken it . He is one among the people who are present here. He is having a long beard . He is unaware that what he had eat in the morning as breakfast , is still sticking to his beard . We will soon nail him " .

By hearing the news, one of the courtiers checked his beard .Soon Birbal caught him . Courtier agreed that he had taken the ring and returned ring to Akbar.

Akbar was puzzled by all these drama. He asked Birbal how did he know that thief was having beard and part of breakfast is still sticking to his beard ?

Birbal smiled and replied " A guilty person is always scared that someone will nail him . Ring was lost in court . One or the other courtier must have taken it . I just played a mind game and it worked . You have got your ring. "

Akbar was amused by wisdom of Birbal.

Power of belief

Long ago,there lived a saint near the river bank. One lady was supplying him milk everyday. Since she was living on opposite bank of river, she had to cross the river everytime.

She was taking help of a person who knew how to drive a boat. But that person is very irregular and because of that , woman sometimes is unable to supply milk to saint.

Once saint asked for her absence previous day. Lady said the problem. That time, saint jokingly asked her to practice walking on water by chanting the name of god. Lady took it seriosly.

From that day onwards she was regular on her duty. Saint was surprised. On asking . she said that now she dont wait for boat as she can walk on water.

Saint didnt believe her. Both of them went near river. Soon lady started to walk on water. By seeing her doing so even saint thought of trying.

But he was scared that his lungi may get wet. By seeing his dilemma woman said " if you believe in your ability that you are able to do a work, then nothing can stop you by achieving the goal ". By listening to the words, Saint was ashamed of himself.

A fresh egg will sink in fresh water . But a rotten one floats .

As the time passes , egg will decompose by itself . Because of this , mass of egg is reduced as egg shell is porous and inner vapour content will escape to atmosphere .

This reduces the mass of egg . If this egg is put into water , the volume of water displaced by this egg is more than its own mass . Hence it will float .

What happens when rubber band is heated?

In previous article , we have come to know about thermal expansion. As materials are made of molecules which will be always colliding with each other; heating causes these molecules to collide even harder thus resulting in expansion. When heating stops, materials will contract too . Repetitive expansion and contraction will result in cracks in the material. Rubber bands are different from many other materials as their molecules are very long chains , called polymers. Now because of these unusual structure of polymers , when heating causes the rubber band to get CONTRACT . When these long chains of polymers get hotter and vibrate, they get shorten. This results in contraction of rubber when heated. When the chains cool down , they relax and stretch out resulting in the expansion of rubber band.

Bhoota- Kola of Tulunaadu

Yesterday my uncle had sent me a video of bhoota kola. I bowed my head to the divine spirit. The diety shown in the video in his full spirit ( diety is coming on a follower ) was sitting on fire ! Not only for the first time , but several times . I know people may think it as a trick to fool the people . But same thing he repeated . It is definitely not the trick. After some time , bhoota threw itself on fire ! It was so horrifying. I don't want to discuss the psychological reason behind this. But surely it is proving that there exists a divine power. Because no one will dare to touch the fire even in subconscious mind !

Heat expansion

We have seen wires hanging from electric poles. Ever wondered why do they tied the wires between electric poles so loose ? ?????? ????? As I always think myself quite different from others, I just wondered. Another thing is same wires which were hanging loose in winter , look stretched and tightly held between poles in summer ! Why????? This is just an example of heat expansion or thermal expansion . Now what is getting expanded? The wires , obviously . Why do they get expand in summer or when they get heated? It is the property of metals. They get expand when they get heated or exposed to heat. Now the metallic wires between electric poles are not an exemption for this phenomena. As they get expand during summer, if they were tied tightly between the poles , then during summer there is a chance of cutting down of wires because of heat expansion. So in order to prevent that it is better to give extra space to them when they get expand. That's why they are loosely tied. They look sagging during winter and look tightly held up during summer because of heat expansion.

How do springs work?

Springs when used , either they store energy or absorb energy. When we are pulling or pushing the spring, we are using the force , that means we are doing WORK and using energy. Tighter the spring, harder it is to deform. The energy what we use is not getting lost , as per law of conservation of energy. Then where it is stored? Most of this energy is stored as POTENTIAL ENERGY in the spring. When we release the spring, even this energy is released. For example : when we wind a mechanical clock , we are storing the energy by tightening the spring. As the spring loosens, this energy is slowly released and powers the gears inside and turns the hands around clock face. Now when all of this potential energy which was stored in spring is over , turning of hands on clock face too stops.

Why is apple called false fruit?

Fruits are divided into two categories: true fruits and false fruits. True fruit is formed from the ovary of flower. An apple's flesh is not derived from ovary of flower but instead it is the swollen part of stem. The real fruit is in the core, the part which we throw away !

Son of Shoorpanakha

Shoorpanakha was the sister of Ravan .

Although , she is a demon / asura woman , even she had a family. She was married to another demon named Vidhyujjihava . He was serving in the army of Ravan .

Ravan had killed him . To soothe his sister , Ravan had given her the entire forest to live . Shoorpanakha had a son too , by the name Shambhooka.

Shambhooka was accidently killed by Laxman when he was taken the form as a tree . Laxman had cut the tree for their home.

ನಂತರ ಕಾದ ಎಣ್ಣೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಮಿಶ್ರಣದಲ್ಲಿ ಅದ್ದಿದ ನೀರುಳ್ಳಿ ತುಂಡುಗಳನ್ನು ಡೀಪ್ ಫ್ರೈ ಮಾಡಬೇಕು . 

Why do we always see water as mirage?

Yesterday I was watching a cartoon show. There one of the characters was walking on desert and suddenly he finds the mirage of water. He ran towards it as he was very thirsty but disheartened to find out that it is just the illusion. As I always think differently, I started to think why everyone travelling across desert always see WATER as the mirage? Why not milk or soft drinks?! ?????? ?????? It is all the work of our mind. Mirages are the form of an optical illusion which is caused by total refraction of light. As I mentioned it is an optical illusion, when we see a mirage, we first see a shining material in long distance. Now our mind starts to think what it could be? A mirror? A glass frame? Pond of water? As we are familiar with pond of water ( which is also the present need as we are in desert and we are thirsty ) ,our mind rules out the first two possibilities and arrive to the conclusion that it must be the pond of water ! That's why mirages are always WATER .

Do not self pity yourself

I believe GOD created all of us. He has made us so that we can achieve something in life . Some of us have already achieved luxuries in life. Some are still struggling . As Shri Krishna said " one has to do his work , put his efforts . The end result is in HIS hand. " As God created this whole world , he was taking rest after the tiresome work. That time he observed a crab passing by. Watching its style of walking, GOD pitied about the creature. He asked crab " I have done injustice to you by making you to walk like this. To compensate my mistake ,I would like to grant a boon to you . Ask whatever you want ". Crab replied , " God , you have made me different from others. I have a unique walking style which no one has in the whole world. That makes me special .I am happy with this and I don't want any boon ". Crab don't have self pity about itself. It knows if GOD has made it like that, there must be some reason. Just believe in ourselves. Self pity is always harmful.

Kind hearted papaya tree

Last year, in the month of August I had observed a tiny plant in our front yard . As day passed, it was becoming taller . By external features, it looked like a papaya plant. My mother was very happy that papaya tree is growing in our front yard. As everyone know that I think logically, this time also I was not ready to believe it as a papaya tree. My logic based on several facts. 1. In recent days, we didn't have eaten papaya fruit. So there is no chance that one of us had put the seed in the soil and were responsible for the birth of plant. 2. Our neighbours too didn't have this plant in their garden. So no question of pollination arises . Based on these facts, I concluded that it must be a stray plant. I decided to pluck it out. I went near the plant and tried to pull it. But it was having a good grip and I couldn't pull it. Finally I changed my mind and broke down its stem. I thought it will die on its own. But that plant is very stubborn and again it started to grow. Now it has its twin brother also , two plants emerging from same stem !!! By this time, in house everyone were aware of what I did. I was forbidden to touch the plant. Everyone were quite sure that it is the papaya plant except me. I decided to wait and watch. ..... On new year day, first papaya fruit was available on the same plant. After 3 days one more. ! Now when eating those papaya fruit, I thought this plant is very kind hearted. Eventhough I tried to kill it , it didn't mind and changed my way of thinking by giving tasty papaya fruit. Moral : Don't underestimate anyone .

What colour would the leaf look ?

We know leaf looks green in daylight . Chlorophyll present in leaf absorbs all the colours of light spectrum but reflects green . Hence leaf looks green to our eye .

Now let us change the source of light . Now leaf is in dark room under a red light . Now without any prior thinking , if we look at leaf , what colour it has ?

Why is it so ?




Let me explain . If it is under daylight , it just reflects the green light wavelength of light spectrum . Not others .

Now the source of light itself is red light . Remember , leaf only reflects green light and absorbs all the other colours .

This time also , leaf absorbed red light . Since no green light wavelength is available in present light spectrum , it has nothing to reflect .

Hence , leaf would look black.
