Colour of water
While relatively small quantities of water appear to be colorless , it becomes deeper blue as the thickness of water increases. It is caused by selective absorption and scattering of white light. Impurities dissolved or suspended in water may give water different colour.
Water is a simple 3 - atom molecule , H2O . Lakes and oceans appear blue for many reasons . One is that the surface of the water reflects the colour of sky. But the colour of the water depends on the impurities too. There is green water too !
Now how this green water comes? Here the water is filled with algae . Hence it looks green ! The growth of algae can be controlled if sunrays are blocked to water source.
