Why do plastic chairs have a hole at the back ??

 The hole in the plastic chairs is not just for design  !!

There are several practical reasons behind this.

Main reason is related to stacking.

When plastic chairs are stacked on top of each other , air can get trapped between them

It creates suction and thus making it difficult to separate the chairs.

But this hole allows air to escape easily and preventing them from sticking together.

Another reason lies in the manufacturing process.  Plastic chairs are made by pouring hot plastic to moulds. The hole helps in safely removing the chair from the mould.

This small hole over all reduces the weight of the chair. It lowers production costs when manufactured in large amounts.

The hole improves air circulation for the person sitting.  If water is spilled on chair , it can easily drain out.
