How do astronauts communicate with Earth from space ??

We all have seen Indian astronaut Shubhanshu Shukla interacting with students from space.

Space has no network or mobile towers like Earth.  Then what made this conversation possible ??

Unlike Earth, space lacks air needed for sound waves to travel. This makes traditional voice communication impossible.

Sound is a mechanical wave that requires  a medium like air or water. Space is a vacuum.

Astronauts use RADIO WAVES, which is a type of electromagnetic radiation that does not require air to travel.

Microphones and transmitters on astronauts' helmet convert speech into radio signals.

These signals are then transmitted to Earth via the satellite relays and antennas.

These signals are then converted back to audio signal at ground station.

Hence, conversation was possible  !!!!
