Why does Kanyakumari beach sand is colourful?
Long ago, there was a demon by the name Banasur. People were suffering from his evil works. That's why God Shiv called Goddess Parashakti to kill the demon. She agreed and took the form of Kanyakumari and killed the demon since he was having the boon that only by a virgin(kanya) he can be killed. After completion of her work, Goddess requested Shiv to marry her.
Though Shiv agreed, he did not turn up on correct time for wedding. Goddess was waiting. But Shiv didnt turn up. Hence she decided that she will remain kanyakumari (virgin goddess) throughout her life. The turmeric and kumkum which is red in colour remained there and changed to sand. That's why in beach of Kanyakumari, sand is colourful.
