Unlike humans, whose skin grows and regenerates continuously,
Snakes must shed entire outer layer of their skin periodically. This is to accommodate their growing body.
This is essential for their health and wellbeing.
As snakes grow, their skin doesn't stretch.
Instead they form a new layer of skin underneath the old one.
When the time comes, the old skin is shed revealing the new larger skin.
This periodic shedding helps them to maintain healthy skin, remove parasites and heal minor injuries.
Young snakes shed more frequently than older ones.
