Today is Yugadi

Today is the beginning of Hindu new year i.e. Yugadi.  Though we , in Udupi , celebrate Yugadi on April 15, many people celebrate today.
I am happy because I know it is the time of appearance of new buds in trees.
I have a very strong reason for my joy. Our neighbour has grown teak wood tree and mango tree near our compound.
No...  Not inside our compound !
In his compound itself but near a place to our compound.
The trees are big in size as they have grown taller. They are falling their dry leaves on our compound !
Our neighbour's area is clean and clear .
Our compound looks a mess because of those fallen dry leaves.
For a small breeze too, there will be a fresh dose of leaves falling !
But from today , the proportion of falling leaves will become less.
Nightingales have already started singing sitting on mango trees.
I strongly believe our neighbour had planted these trees near our compound on purpose to give us trouble. But I must thank him for giving me a chance of listening to singing of nightingale through out the day. 

Shilpa Shetty in Comedy Nights

On 23 rd march 2014 , the episode of Comedy Nights with Kapil having Shilpa Shetty promoting her movie  ( produced in her banner ) was aired. I watched it yesterday .

I always do things differently !

Shilpa Shetty was with her husband Raj Kundra. As everyone know , Shilpa Shetty hails from Mangalorean family and Kundra is a punjabi.
Kapil wanted Kundra to say something to Shilpa in her language Tulu. If I am right, he uttered something like " porlu ponnu " . I am not sure .
Kapil wanted to know the meaning of it. Shilpa translated it as " looking sexy ".
I was surprised. According to my knowledge of Tulu, it is just you are looking beautiful or " beautiful woman  "
I wondered why did Shilpa translated it as like that ? May be in Mumbai , it has taken the meaning like that. Big cities and strange meanings !

If an ice cube melts in a glass of water , does the level of water in the glass increase , decrease or remains the same ?

I know people may think it as a silly question. Even I thought like that !
I sincerely agree that I thought water level would increase as ice is the solid  form of water and when it melts, it becomes water .



But is it that simple ?

Let me give the answer.

Water level would remain the same .


WHY?

The volume of water that the ice cube displaces is the same as the weight of the water in the ice cube ! 
Given that these two are equal, the level therefore remains the same.

When ice melts, the amount of water it gives on melting is the same as the amount of water it had displaced when it was put on water . So, the level of water remains same.

But it is applicable only for the ice which is above the water level.

What is the full form of MRF tyres?

Today, in newspaper I have seen the advertisement of MRF tyres. MRF is a famous brand .
I wanted to know the full form of MRF.

MRF Limited = Madras Rubber Factory Limited

It is an Indian company. It manufactures, distributes and also the sale of rubber tyres for vehicles.

Tulu proverb

       
beelo derti naayin nanbyere balli.

ಬೀಲೊ ದೆರ್ತಿ ನಾಯಿನ್ ನಂಬ್ಯೆರೆ ಬಲ್ಲಿ .

Translation -

beelo = ಬೀಲೊ = tail
derti = ದೆರ್ತಿ = holding upright
naayin = ನಾಯಿನ್ = dog
nambyere = ನಂಬ್ಯೆರೆ = to believe
balli = ಬಲ್ಲಿ = is not good

Meaning -

This proverb creator must have observed the behaviour of dogs closely !
It states that if a dog is holding its tail upright, then we must not go near of it.
Even I observed that if a dog is walking freely on the road without giving trouble to anyone ( not even to other dogs or cats ) , then its tail will be between its hind legs.
But if dog is agitated for some reason, then it holds its tail upright . This will give the indication that at any moment dog can attack and to be careful.
