Mercury, planet of extremes

Mercury is the smallest planet in the solar system.

It is situated closest to Sun.

Mercury has no atmosphere to retain heat. Meaning temperature varies from 400C during the day to - 170C at the night.

Mercury 's location has made it difficult to study.

One reason is the heat

The other one is gravity .  The nearer you get to the Sun can, stronger is its pull.

These difficulties mean that Mercury has been less well studied than our other neighbours.

The other rock based planets, venus  earth and Mars , all have relatively tiny core and hard crust.

But crust of Mercury appears to be thin.
