Question 

Me and my friend entered the parking lot at 11.30 am and came out at 3.45 pm.

Charges were Rs 40 for the first hour and Rs 25 for every hour thereafter.

How much money did I pay   ????

Answer 

First we will look at the total time and charged money.

I entered parking lot at 11.30 am

For first hour, charge is Rs 40

 ==>> From 11.30 am to 12.30 pm     

           Rs 40

==>>  From 12.30 pm to 1.30 pm

          Rs 25

           Total money =  40  +  25

==>>  Rs  65

From 1.30 pm to 2.30 pm

            Rs 25

            Total money =  65 +  25

==>>    Rs   90

From 2.30 pm to 3.30 pm

            Rs 25

            Total money =  90  +  25   

==>>     Rs   115

      

Now I left at 3.45  pm

But I have to pay the money as if I have spend one more hour, though I spent extra 15 minutes.

Since it is the part of next hour, it is often rounded up  !!!

            Rs 25

             Total money =  115  +  25

==>>  Rs   140

So, I have spent Rs  140  !!!
