Bheja Fry question

 This Bheja Fry question I came across on TV.

Question 

If a clock strikes 1 time for first hour, 2 times for second hour and like that, then how many times it will strike on a new years day  ???

Answer 

A clock strikes 1 time at 1.00 am

                               2  times at 2.00 am

....

....

                                12 times at 12.00 pm, (  noon  )

Again strikes  1 time at 1.00 pm

                             2 times at 2.00 pm 

.....

....

                               12 times at 12.00 am ( mid night   )

 

Total strikes from 1.00 am to 12 pm

1 + 2 + 3 +...............+ 12  =  78 times 

Similarly, 

Total strikes from 1  pm to 12am

Clock strikes  78 times. 

Totally strikes from both the periods is 

 78   +     78      =    156 times.

So, the clock strikes 156   times on new year day   !!!!
