Surtsey , volcanic island

Surtsey is the new island emerged from sea.

It is at the southern coast of Iceland.

It began as an undersea volcanic eruption.

Today entry of this island is prohibited to everyone except scientists.

It has become the natural laboratory for studying the colonisation of plants and animals.

The. Volcanic eruption began below the sea level.

The explosions were violent. Clouds of ash and steam have climbed up.

The island was built up so that water could not reach vents and volcanic activity calmed down.

By 1967,  Surtsey remained dormant.
