This bheja fry question I came across when I was watching a quiz show on TV.
Question
At present , father is twice aon's age. But 4 years ago, he was four times the age of his son.
What is the age of son ??
Answer
Let the age of son be x and the age of father be y.
According to problem, father is twice of son's age.
==>> y = 2x.
Then it states that, 4 years ago father was four times of son's age.
Son's age before,4 years = x - 4
==>> Father's age was four times the son's age, y - 4 = 4 ( x - 4 )
Now replacing y by 2x in the above equation,
==>> 2x - 4 = 4 ( x - 4 )
==>> 2x = 4x - 16 - 4
==>> 2x = 12
==>> x = 6
Son's age is 6 years.
