Brain teasers always follow certain type of series.

If we come to know what is the format of series , it is very easy to solve the problem.

Like in above problem,

We can see that given numbers  12.  17 ,  23 ,  30 .....

The first number is getting increased by  +5.

Next number by +6.

Next number by  +7.

Next number by  +8.

Next number by   +9.     And  so on.

So coming to last given number which is 38.

The next number should get increased by  +9.

That means  38 must get increased by  +9

Hence  answer is    38  +   9   =   47 .
