Why do Indian trains come in different colours ???

The different colours of train coaches are not chosen at random  !!!

They are the part of well thought system that helps passengers and railway staff to identify the type and function of each coach.

Such different colours are  -----

1.  Blue color

Blue colour is the most common colour seen on Indian railway coaches.  It was replaced by earlier maroon colour as part of modernization.

Blue colour is used for sleeper and general coaches.

2.  Maroon colour

Maroon colour was widely in use before replaced by blue  !!!  It is still used in some old trains.

3.  Green colour

Green coaches are typically for garib rath trains  !!!  Garib rath trains offer affordable air conditioned travel.

4.  Red or rust colour

These coaches usually indicate air conditioned classes such as AC chair car or AC sleeper.

5.  Yellow stripes and markings

These feature special purpose coaches such as brake vans, parcel vans or coaches with specific operational roles.
