Why is America called United States ??

The name United States of America is commonly shortened to USA.

Before independence, the land now known as United States consisted of 13 British colonies along eastern cows of North America.

These colonies differ in culture, economy and governance, yet they shared growing dissatisfaction with British rule.

When they decided to break away from British crown, they faced a crucial question  ---  "  How could seperate colonies unite, while still maintaining their individual identities ??  "

After declaring independence in 1776, the former colonies  merge into a single centralized territory.

Instead they formed a union of individual states, each with its own government and law, while agreeing to be governed collectively on national matters such as defence and trade.

So,  America is called USA because the name accurately describes the nation  :  A Union of individual states located in America   !!!
