Different types of armed forces salute

 Saluting is a time honoured tradition within military culture.


In India, the armed forces comprising of army, navy and air force, each have their own unique style of salute.




Indian Army salute 

                      Indian  Army's salute characterized by an open palm facing forward.

                       The fingers and thumb are held together with the middle fingure nearly touching the brow.

                         This gesture is executed standing upright, facing the individual being saluted.






Indian Navy salute 

                              The Indian Navy salute involves an open palm facing downwards at 90 degree angle to the forehead.






Indian Air force salute 

                             The Indian Air force salute consists of an open palm  raised at 45 degree angle to the ground.

                               This position is midpoint between Army and Navy salutes.
