The primary reason that planets are round is,
GRAVITY !!!!
Gravity pulls everything towards the center of planet. This force acts equally from all sides.
As the planet forms, gravity pulls all the gas , dust and other materials from space towards the center.
Over time, this constant pull towards the center causes the planet to take a spherical shape.
More mass of a planet, that much stronger is its gravitational force.
When planets start to form, they are not round in shape. First particles collide and stick together.
When the planet becomes large enough, even its gravity brings everything into most efficient and stable shape, a sphere.
Even though gravity pulls everything into a round shape, not all planets are perfectly round !!!
This is due to planet's spin......
As a planet rotates, the equator part has to move fast than the polar ends.
This causes the planet to bulge outside at the equator.
