Rain shadow = " dry side " of mountain !!!
To know, what is " dry side " of a mountain, we must know what is " wet side " of a mountain.
1. Wet side
Wind blows from the ocean , hits a mountain.
The air is forced up. As it goes up, it gets cold. And all the water in it, turns into rain !!!
So, this side of mountain gets lots of rain and is called " wet side ".
2. Dry side or Rain Shadow
After the air crosses the mountain top, it comes down on other side.
Now the air is dry, as it has dumped all its water content on " other " side !!!!
So this side gets very little rain and it is known as " rain shadow ".
Example
Mountain : Western Ghats
Wet side : Mumbai
Rain Shadow : Solapur, Bijapur
