When we look at the front of a man's neck, we spot a hard ridge jutting out just above the collarbone.
But in women and other primates, we don't find this. !!!
The lump itself is not a seperate organ. It's the front edge of thyroid cartilage. It protects the voice box.
In children of both the sexes, this cartilage sits at shallow angle and barely shows.
During male puberty, rising testosterone drives the cartilage to grow forward.
This is male specific.
The visible " Apple " is just the seam of sharper angle pressing against the skin. !!!
Why testosterone remodels the throat ??
Boy's voice drops roughly over adolescence, as longer and thicker vocal chords vibrate more slowly.
While girl's vocal chords drops only slightly !!!!
