Long tung is basically a surviving tool for living in tall., spiky trees.
Giraffe tongue is 45 to 50 m long !!!
Giraffe has long tongue mainly for these reasons ----
1. Reaching food
2. Protecting themselves
3. Keeping calm
Giraffes eat mostly Acacia trees. These trees are tall and covered with thorns.
Giraffes can reach this much height and their long tung lets it strips leaves between the thorns without getting poked !!!
Tongue is super tough and muscular. Thick leathery skin + lots of saliva helps it slide past thorns without getting cut.
With long tongue, giraffes clean their face, eyes and ears !!!
