Why is apple called false fruit?

Fruits are divided into two categories: true fruits and false fruits. True fruit is formed from the ovary of flower. An apple's flesh is not derived from ovary of flower but instead it is the swollen part of stem. The real fruit is in the core, the part which we throw away !
