There is no shortcut for success

There is no shortcut for success

Ramu is the student of class 7 . He is finding mathematics very difficult. All these years in class, he is passing in the exam of mathematics with border marks.
But now he is in class 7 . He must do well in the exam if he want to get into a good high school. But what to do?  He is finding the mathematics sums as monsters !
He is trying to concentrate on the subject but is of no use. One day , his mother gave him 2 Rs and asked him to bring table salt from nearby shop.
Ramu went to market . While he was  in market , he observed a man who was selling holy threads. Man was claiming that with the holy thread , anything what we wish to be done will be fulfilled ! By hearing that Ramu was very happy.
He went near the man and man repeated the same thing. Ramu asked him the cost of it . Man said just Rs. 2 ! Exactly what Ramu is having .
Ramu asked him what to do and how to wear? Man said after wearing it , Ramu has to go to a temple and everyday he has to pray there morning and evening . His wish will be fulfilled in coming days ! Ramu gave the money.
He wore the holy thread and went to nearby temple and he prayed that in coming school test , he has to pass the exam with good marks.
He returned home. His mother asked him about salt and Ramu said that he lost the money accidentally . Mother didnt ask more questions as she was busy with daily chores.
Ramu began to think that because of holy thread , his mother believed his story. His confidence grew. Every morning and evening he was going to temple and praying.
Ramu's parents thought Ramu had finished his revisions and then he is going to temple for mind refreshment. Exams came and Ramu faced the exam without preparation.
Ramu this time , not only failed in mathematics but also in all subjects ! Then he realized that there is no shortcut way for success . Only the hard work will help . That time , even God will shower his blessings on us.

Family of Sun

                                  Family of Sun

In Hindu mythology , Sun is considered as God. Sun is also having family . He is the grand son of God    Brahma himself.
Sun's mother is Aditi . Aditi's children together are known as Adityas . Sun is one among these adityas . Sun's wife is Sanjna Devi.
The couple had the children namely ,
1 . Vaivaswata
2 . Yama
3 . Yamuna
But Sanjna was uncomfortable with the glowing light of Sun . She wanted to move away from him . That's why she has created her replica called Chaya devi.
Sun was unaware that Chaya was not Sanjna. The couple had children namely
1. Savarni
2 . Shani
3 . Tapati
But since Chaya devi is the step mother of Sanjna's children , she could not show the same affection towards children of Sanjna as she is showing towards her own children.
Sun had observed this and then he came to know the truth also . He wanted to bring his first wife back . For that, he had to decrease his glowing light .
He did that and the glow which he had lost was useful to make Sudarshana Chakra , Trishool  and other weapons of devas.
Sun went near his wife in new form and then the couple got Ashwini Devata who are twins as their children. Ashwini Devata are also the divine doctors .

Miserly man - Panchatantra story

                                         Miserly man - Panchatantra story

Lime water

                                           Lime water

Lime water is different from lemon water , which we often drink when we are thirsty . It has got its name because it is white in colour.
Lime water is nothing than Calcium Hydroxide . ( Ca ( OH ) 2 ) . Lime water is obtained when Calcium Oxide  is mixed with water .
I remember when our outer portion of house , which is made up of cement , was slippery in the time of rainy season , we had put lime water on the ground and scrubbed it.

How important is giving alms?

                                    How important is giving alms?

This is the story on how to give alms ? Nowadays people are giving alms just for media publicity. There will be a secret ambition that people must recognize them by their broad minded nature. But is that type giving alms is really useful?
Long ago, in a village there was a temple. It was believed that god Shiv himself has worshiped the idol there.
But now , the building is about to collapse .  So , the king decided to make new construction of temple . By hearing his decision , people from the village said that even they would like to contribute something to the temple.
King agreed and said that whoever gives donations , their names will be written on the main notice board. People were very happy.
Wealthy people just to show of their status, contributed lakhs of rupees. King accepted everything with a smile.
Now , construction of temple is complete . All were eager to see their names on notice board. Their names were there . But the first name of donor is of a sculptor who donated just rs 100 !
Rich men were angry . They went near king and demanded to know the reason : even-though they have donated lakhs of rupees , why didnt their name appeared first on list?
King replied : " You people donated the excess money . By giving that , you people will not lose anything. But sculptor has denoted his earning of a day itself to temple. That day , there was nothing for him to eat too. That is the reason , his donation topped the list".
Rich men were speechless as king has told the truth.

Solar System

                                              Solar System

The Solar System consists of the Sun and its planetary system of 8 planets ( not 9 , as Pluto is nowadays not considered as a planet ) ., their moons and other non - stellar objects. It is believed that solar system is formed with the gravitational collapse of large molecular cloud.
The vast majority of the system is in Sun , and the remaining ( most of it ) is in planet Jupiter. The 4 smaller inner planets are --------
1 . Mercury
2 . Venus
3 . Earth
4 . Mars
These are also called as terrestrial planets . They are primarily composed of rock and metal .
The remaining 4 planets are ----------
5 . Jupiter
6 . Saturn
7 . Uranus
8 . Neptune
These are called gas giants , Jupiter and Saturn are mainly consisted of gases like hydrogen and Helium where as Uranus and Neptune are composed of substances of relatively high melting points , and are referred as ice giants .
The asteroid belt lies between planets Mars and Jupiter . Sometimes these objects are also referred as dwarf planets .

Asteroids

                                            Asteroids

In yesterday's newspaper , there was a news about Asteroids causing harm in Ukraine. Asteroids are small solar system bodies which are not comets.
The term asteroids historically referred to the objects inside the orbit of planet Jupiter. They are also called planetoids if they are larger in size. These are the astronomical objects that are orbiting the Sun , but they are not planet or comets .
They are usually rocky or metallic. There are millions of asteroids ! They never grew large enough to be a planet . The first asteroid to be discovered is Ceres , was found in 1801. The term asteroid refers to star like or star shaped.
The main difference between a comet and asteroids is that a comet shows a tail due to sublimation of ices by solar radiation . Comets typically have a more eccentric orbits than asteroids . Asteroids contain traces of amino acids and other organic compounds and their impact on the earth may have resulted in initiating life or destruction of life too.
Usually , they are not visible to naked eye.

Instant dry fruit milk shake

                                 Instant dry fruit milk shake

This recipe I am writing as I saw it on TV.
We require dryfruits like almonds, grapes ,cashew nuts etc. For doing it quickly, we can soak the dry fruits in hot water and then use.
Otherwise, we can soak the dry fruits overnight in normal water. The purpose for this soaking is just to make the dry fruits ready for grinding.

Required Ingredients ---

Soaked dry fruits
Sugar
Milk
Cardamom  powder

Method ---

First , grind the already soaked dryfruits , sugar ( as per taste )  and milk in a mixer . If the above mixure is too thick , we can add further milk to it. Finally , pour the paste in a glass and add  cardamom  powder for good fragrance.

Why do we celebrate republic day on 26 , January?

Why do we celebrate republic day on 26 , January?

As we know, India gained its independence on 15th august , 1947 . After gaining independence , the process of preparing a constitution started.
The constitution was passed on 26 November , 1949 in general assembly. It was adopted on 26 January , 1950 with a democratic government system , when the country became republic.
Now , why the date 26 January itself is selected? why not other dates?
26 January is selected , because it was on this day on 1930 when the declaration of Indian independence was passed.

Person with 4 legs !

                                     Person with 4 legs !

Every human being born with 2 legs ! He walks with those. Some do aerobic exercises also. But I am talking about a person with 4 legs .
Obviously ,  the other 2 must be  the artificial means. I am talking about myself. I am the person with 4 legs ! 2 are my natural legs who look almost like healthy ones and the remaining 2 refers to my crutches which I use to walk around.
When  I was walking with crutches , a dog who was passing on road was full of questions by seeing me ! It must have seen other persons walk on only 2 legs. But here I am , using 4 .
First it thought I am coming near it , carrying crutches , just to hit it. It started barking loudly. But my intention was not to harm it and I continued walking but in different direction !
Then it must have realised that there is no harm from me as it thought and stopped barking . It went on its way and me , mine.

Carbon dioxide as a fire extinguisher

Carbon dioxide as a fire extinguisher

We all know carbon dioxide as a pollutant. Eventhough it is a pollutant , it can also be used as a fire extinguisher .
Carbon dioxide ( CO2 ) fire extinguishers are distinguished by a black coloured band around the top of cylinder .
Carbon dioxide is a non conductive and non corrosive gas used to reduce the amount of oxygen available to the fire . Carbon dioxide is extracted from atmosphere and stored at high pressure in the liquid state within a fire extinguisher .
The pressure in the cylinder is so great that when we use these cylinders , bits of dry ice may shoot out of the horn . They extinguish fire by displacing oxygen . It cools the fuel as well.

Blind following of other's work

                                   Blind following of other's work

Long ago , in a village there lived 2 men. They were friends. They are Ramanna and Somanna . Both were working in king's court as servants.
Their houses are also nearby . Though they were friends , their wives were not. If one lady buys something , in next moment itself , the other lady ought to have it. This mentality was not visible from the front but inside , the ladies were hating each other.
Once , both men had gone 2 court . That time, king had arranged a big meet of other kings in his palace.  Court was packed .Deep discussion was going on . That time itself, king had an urge to pass flatulence ! Now it is difficult to control this urge.
There was a sound but gratefully no smell !  Minister understood the situation. If he tells truth , king will be a laughing stock . Minister came forward and asked in a loud voice that who is responsible for this obstruction.? Ramanna had observed what had happened .
Ramanna came forward and apologized near king for his mistake . King was happy that Ramanna had taken the responsibility of whatever happened . As token of gratitude , he gave Ramanna many rewards. Though Somanna was present there , he was unaware of all these.
Ramanna came home with rewards. His wife was very happy by seeing the rewards. Ramanna said to her that he passed flatulence in King's court and also took the responsibility of that. Ramanna's wife went near Somanna's wife and showed her all the rewards.
Ramanna's wife didnt say full incident . She said Ramanna had passed flatulence in court and then took the responsibility . Hearing that , Somanna's wife was   very troubled.
As soon as her husband entered home, she narrated the entire incident and urged her husband to follow the same suit. Somanna did the same in very next day infront of everyone . This time , as Somanna's stomach was full , there was both sound and smell .!  King ordered his soldiers to punish Somanna for his misbehaviour !
Moral : Blindly following others work without knowing the reason , can be harmful .

How many eyelids do frogs have?

How many eyelids do frogs have?

The title may sound silly . Since frogs have 2 eyes , they must have 2 eyelids. But actual answer is they have 3 eyelids !
When frogs swim , they use this extra eyelid to cover their eye . It also acts as a protective layer to keep the foreign objects getting  into the eye.
Every animal has 3rd eyelid , including humans ! But as the human species evolved , this 3rd eyelid got disappeared. We may have noticed the bulgy thing on the side of our eye . That used to be our 3rd eyelid. As man adopted lifestyle of staying on ground , this extra eyelid got disappeared.
The 3rd eyelid on a frog is called a nictitating membrane . This membrane is found in amphibians , reptiles , birds , fish etc.

Incandescent light bulbs

                                  Incandescent light bulbs

An incandescent light bulb , is an electric bulb which produces light with a filament wire heated to a high temperature by electric current that is passing through it, until it glows .
The hot filament is protected from oxidation with a glass envelope that is filled with inert gas .The inert gas may be nitrogen or argon ( which are widely used ) or also krypton  or xenon .
The first successful light bulb filament were made up of carbon . But they had a negative coefficient of resistance - as they got hotter , their resistance is decreased . Now they use tungsten metal for filament .But we can observe that the bulb gets blackened.
The evaporated tungsten eventually condenses on the inner surface of glass envelope , darkening it . When a filling of inert gas is used , the evaporated tungsten deposits preferably in the uppermost part of glass envelope , blackening just that portion of envelope.

Aqua Regia and trick of gold polishing

Aqua Regia and trick of gold polishing

Aqua Regia
or Nitro-Hydrochloric acid is a highly corrosive mixure of acids , a fuming yellow or red solution . The mixure is formed by freshly mixing concentrated nitric acid and hydrochloric acid , usually in the volume ratio of 1 : 3 .
It has got its name of King's water ( Aqua Regia ) , because it can dissolve the so called noble metals , gold and platinum. Aqua regia itself is very corrosive and has been implicated in several explosions due to mishandling .
Sometimes we may have seen an old gold ornament at home that has got spots. Our parents may take it to a polisher to get it cleaned and polished . Gold in ornaments or jewellary is actually alloyed with copper or silver  , which tarnish over time.
Aqua regia is very powerful and can dissolve gold within minutes. We should not clean gold ornaments with aqua regia.  What these polishers are doing is they dip the gold ornaments in aqua regia for a little while , rinse them with water and give the ornaments back to us. Now , the gold looks new and also polished ! But in truth , aqua regia has actually eaten up few top layers of the gold.
It is so thin that we dont notice. A polisher in the name of polishing gold ornaments , he may have polished hundreds of gold ornaments.
With this trick , he may have removed quite a few gram of gold. He can then precipitate this gold using sodium bicarbonate. But to clean gold jewellary , all we need is just soap water . Since with soap water , we can get rid of dirt on jewellary.
This is the true story of gold polishing.

Colour of water

                             Colour of water

While relatively small quantities of water appear to be colorless , it becomes deeper blue as the thickness of water increases. It is caused by selective absorption and scattering of white light. Impurities dissolved or suspended in water may give water different colour.
Water is a simple 3 - atom molecule , H2O . Lakes and oceans appear blue for many reasons . One is that the surface of the water reflects the colour of sky. But  the colour of the water depends on the impurities too. There is green water too !
Now how this green water comes? Here the water is filled with algae . Hence it looks green ! The growth of algae can be controlled if sunrays are blocked to water source.

                                    Greek alphabet

The Greek alphabet is the script that has been used to write the Greek language  since the 8th century BC . Apart from its use in writing Greek language , both in its ancient and modern forms , the Greek alphabet today also serves as a source of technical symbols and labels in many domains of mathematics , science and other fields.
In its classical and modern form , the alphabet has 24 letters , ordered from alpha to omega . We have A to Z in English language , here is the list of Greek alphabets which we feel familiar .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
1. Alpha             7. Eta                          13 . Nu                              19 . Tau
2 . Beta               8 . Theta                     14 . Xi                               20 . Upsilon
3 . Gamma           9 . Iota                       15 . Omicron                    21 . Phi
4 . Delta              10 . Kappa                 16 . Pi                              22 . Chi
