Carbon dioxide as a fire extinguisher

Carbon dioxide as a fire extinguisher

We all know carbon dioxide as a pollutant. Eventhough it is a pollutant , it can also be used as a fire extinguisher .
Carbon dioxide ( CO2 ) fire extinguishers are distinguished by a black coloured band around the top of cylinder .
Carbon dioxide is a non conductive and non corrosive gas used to reduce the amount of oxygen available to the fire . Carbon dioxide is extracted from atmosphere and stored at high pressure in the liquid state within a fire extinguisher .
The pressure in the cylinder is so great that when we use these cylinders , bits of dry ice may shoot out of the horn . They extinguish fire by displacing oxygen . It cools the fuel as well.
