Where there is a will , there is a way

Where there is a will , there is a way

It was the time of famine in the village. Shambhu was not having any work. All he knew was to work in field. But now , no sign of rain and work in fields too.
Shambhu decided to go to nearby village in search of food . His children were starving. His wife is sobbing , seeing the plight of children.
Shambhu decided to find some food . Likewise , he went for nearby village. But he dont know anyone there. Who will give the work for him?
Shambhu reached the nearby village. He saw children playing in ground. He was very happy by seeing the children.
Their parents were also nearby . But they were busy talking. Shambhu sat there seeing the children. Then he noticed one snake which was making noise in the bush.
Children out of curiosity , followed the snake . Snake was about catch its prey. But because of the noise made by children , prey escaped.
Snake was very angry. It figured out the trouble caused by children. Snake came near children. By seeing the snake , very near, children started shouting.
Now , mothers came to know what had happened . They were asking for help with everyone. But no one was ready. Shambhu came forward.
He thought , one or the other day everyone has to die. He came near the snake. Snake was hissing. Without a second thought , Shambhu caught the snake by its tail.
Shambhu thought about his own children who were hungry. He took the snake to a far away place  Then he released it and watched it going inside a crack.
Mothers were behind him . They saw what Shambhu did. One of them said he must not had released snake ,instead he must have killed it.
Shambhu replied "Snake was catching its prey. It was not having any intention to harm children. If it were his own children , he would do the same . When we dont have the ability to give life , we must not kill also . "
People were influenced by his talking . They offered money. But Shambhu refused saying that money which was obtained without work done , will make a man lazy.
People asked about whereabouts of Shambhu and offered him the work of servant in their house. Shambhu realised if one has a will to work, opportunity will come by itself.

Why does sound travel faster in water than in air?

Why does sound travel faster in water than in air?

Sound waves travel faster in water than in air. How does a sound wave travel ?It travels by exciting the  adjacent molecules to vibrate.
The way we talk also happens because of vibration of air molecules. But we can communicate better in water than that of outer surroundings.
Water is denser than air and therefore more elastic. In water , the molecules are tightly bonded with each other than that of air.
Hence because of vibration of molecules , sound travels faster in water than in air.

Cheating monkeys , diwali style

                                             Cheating monkeys ,  diwali style

Our locality is targeted by monkeys !  After finishing all the tender coconuts available on coconut trees , monkeys were searching for other food items .
Monkeys have become nuisance here . Since it is the time of jack fruit , jack fruit trees are seen having jack fruits  In our garden too, we have jack fruit trees.
Since morning , I could hear the sound of bursting crackers in order to make the monkeys to flee. Monkeys are the real genius animals.
When people burst crackers in their garden by seeing the monkeys attacking the trees , monkeys just go away from that spot. As soon as the person who had burst ed the crackers go inside the house , monkeys will come inside the garden !
Monkeys are eyeing on jack fruits . In our neighborhood , one jack fruit tree is having jack fruits all over its stem. I was wondering why monkeys still didnt attack the tree? My wait was finally over.
Monkeys , last week , attacked the tree with their family . Now , jack fruit tree is empty ! They sat on the branches of tree and plucked jack fruit and made halves and shared the fruit with their family and had a good  feast.
In order to hide the jack fruit growing on our trees , mother advised to cover the fruit with a bag.  Now , jack fruit is not visible. Mother is happy that jack fruit is safe from the clutches of monkeys. But what about curious monkeys?
These monkeys are 21st century monkeys . I bet one of them will tear open the bag which is used to cover the jack fruit on tree . They only eat the ripe fruits. Daily they come and check .We humans must get coaching from them !

Vali and Sugreeva

                                     Vali and Sugreeva

In Ramayan , we come across a story about Vali and Sugreeva. Both were brothers , being Vali the eldest. Vali is the son of Indra. Sugreeva is the son of Sun god.
Their mother is Aruni. She was a monkey. Vali became the king . Vali had the boon that in a battle , Vali would absorb the strength of his opponent he is facing.
This boon had made him invincible. Once there was a demon by the name Dundhubhi who was giving trouble . So , both brothers decided to confront the demon.
Dundhubhi was staying in a cave. Brothers traced the cave and decided to move in. Vali told his brother Sugreeva that he will go inside the cave and he will close the entrance with a large stone. If blood comes out of the door of cave , then Sugreeva must assume that Vali is dead . Then Sugreeva must crown himself as king. This was the agreement.
Likewise , Vali entered the cave , closing the door of cave. But demon Dundhubhi was clever enough too. After the fight started between the two, Dundhubhi made blood to come out of the entrance by his magical powers.
Sugreeva saw the blood and assumed that his brother Vali is dead and returned to kingdom to crown himself as king. Finally the battle was over and Vali had killed the demon . Victorious , he returned to kingdom only to see his brother as king in his absence.
Sugreeva tried to explain the things . But Vali was not ready to listen. Hence Sugreeva fled the scene with his supporters as Sugreeva was not having much power to fight with his mighty brother , Vali.

Food poisoning

                                               Food poisoning

We can read in news paper that because of food poison , many people have died. The reports are common on a large scale marriage function or in some gathering.
But what is food poisoning? It is when a person gets sick from eating food or drink that has been contaminated .
Food infection is when the food contains bacteria or other microbes which infects the body after food is eaten . Actually , the phrase poisoning refers not as the mixing of chemical or natural compounds which we call as poisons.
Most cases of food poisoning are caused by bacteria , virus , or parasites that contaminate food . In most cases , body is able to get permanently better after a short term of discomfort.
But people of high risk , including babies, young children , pregnant women elderly people, sick people and the people with low immune system are at a high risk. It may result in permanent health problems including death for them.
Though , it can not be prevented , care can be taken to see that hygienic conditions are maintained while preparing food and drink. Medical help must be taken if vomiting or diarrhea happens in a short time..

Bhola Shankar

                                           Bhola Shankar

God Shiv is often called Bhola Shankar . God Shiv responds to his followers irrespective of what they are . God Shiv because of his nature , always find himself in trouble.
God Shiv can get satisfied by small request if the request is asked with true devotion. God Shiv always grant our wish without thinking the aftermath !
Once king of Lanka , Ravan was doing meditation of Shiv . As usual , Shiv got satisfied by the devotion of Ravan and asked him what does he want?
Ravan asked with Shiv that he wants Shiv's wife Parvati ! Ravan said he wants to take Parvati with him to Lanka. Shiv granted the wish.
Hearing that , Parvati was upset . But she could not do anything as Shiv had already granted the boon and Ravan  has come to take her with him.
Parvati , with dissatisfaction in her mind started her journey with Ravan. In the midway , Maharshi Narad saw this and instantly he came to know what had happened.
He suggested Parvati to take the form of Goddess Kali . Then he will talk with Ravan . Likewise Parvati did. Narad started talking with Ravan and ridiculed him that he is taking beast with him !
Ravan was angry and replied to Narad that most beautiful woman , Parvati is with him and not the beast . Narad asked Ravan to look back . Ravan turned back and was horrified to see Kali in the form of beast instead of Parvati.
Ravan was very scared and he ran away from the place , leaving Parvati there itself. Parvati took her original form and returned to Kailash.

Can drinking too much water cause weight gain?

Can drinking too much water cause weight gain?

The answer is YES . The majority of a person's body weight is water weight. Drinking too much water will cause the weight gain.
But , the weight gain is temporary. After our body balances the pH level , body tends to lose this weight through urine , sweat and also by digesting food.
If a person drinks too much water , he eats less as there is no space for food in stomach ! So at first a person will gain weight but will loose more weight overall because the water weight they have gained is naturally expelled from the body and they will eat less food too.

Why do we sweat more in humid places?

Why do we sweat more in humid places?

I live in a place where humidity is more. The Arabian sea is just 2 km from my place. According to me , since our place is at the sea level , humidity is more here.
If only humidity is more , then it is not a problem. But here , the people ( including me ) sweats a lot. I always wondered why only in our place? why not in Bangalore?
People actually sweat the same amount , on a humid day , as they do on a cold and dry day . The difference is that in humid places , sweat isn't able to evaporate as quickly , like in other places which are higher to sea level .
Because , moisture amount is already there in the atmosphere as our place is at sea level . Even if it evaporates , again there will be sweat generated making me to think that  sweating is more.
But if we sit under fan , we don't feel much sweating , the sweat gets evaporated quickly because of fan's breeze. But electricity  must be there to switch on fan !

Who ruled Ayodhya during Ram's exile period?

Who ruled Ayodhya during Ram's exile period?

We know that Sri Ram had to complete exile period as per his father's words. Sri Ram was the king of Ayodhya. But who ruled Ayodhya in his absence?
Bharath , who was the elder brother of Ram ruled the kingdom. But he refused to sit on throne and had put Ram's sandals on throne and declared that he is the representative of Ram and Ram is the actual king. Bharath spent his time chanting the name of Ram.
It was his another brother , Shatrugna , who had seen all the administrative work. Though , it was said that Bharath was a good administrator, Shatrugna helped him in administrative work.
Wives of Bharath and Shatrugna are Mandavi and Shruta Keerti. Both are cousins of Sita . Shruta Keerti was the wife of Shatrugna . She got her name since she was a good listener. Shatrugna used to discuss the administrative problems with his wife.
As she was Shruta + Keerti = Good Listener , she was listening to problems and was giving suggestions too.
Bharath's wife Mandovi was a good painter. As Ram went on exile , Bharath was uninterested of earthly things and was always chanting Ram's name. Mandovi spent her days painting the scene of Ram and Seeta wedding.

How to generate electricity in generating stations?

How to generate electricity in generating stations?

Electrical power is usually generated by electro-mechanical generators driven by steam produced from fossil fuel combustion or the heat released from nuclear reactions or from other sources such as kinetic energy extracted from wind or flowing water.
Today , 80 % of the electric power in the world is generated using a variety of heat sources. They work on Faraday's electro magnetic principle that a conductor linking changing magnetic field induces a potential difference across its ends.
This potential difference in a changing magnetic field , facilitates the flow of electrons in both upward and downward direction resulting in a sine wave.
Hence , we always get a sine wave which is also known as alternating current.

The mistake

                                             The mistake

Long ago, in a village there was a man by the name Shamanna. He was very poor. Though he worked hard , he was not earning enough money to lead a happy life.
Shamanna was fed up of this. He heard about an elderly man in neighbouring village who gives solution to problems one will face in his life. Shamanna decided to meet the elderly man and ask the solution for his problems. He hoped that everything would be fine.
Shamanna started his journey. On the midway , he saw a tree and decided to take rest under it. As he approached the tree, tree started talking !
According to tree, the canal which is responsible for the water which it needs has been damaged.  Now tree is not at all having water source. It has began to wither its leaves. Tree requested Shamanna to look at the problem. Shamanna said he is leaving for neighbouring village and he is busy. He assured the tree that while returning ,he will find a solution.
He continued his journey. Midway , he found a farmer who was worried. When asked. farmer said though he has land, he can not grow any crop as the seeds do not sprout. He requested Shamanna to look into the matter. Shamanna gave the same reply as he gave to tree.
Shamanna continued his journey and finally reached neighbouring village. He met the elderly man and said his problems. Elderly man said him that he must catch the opportunity which is waiting for him. Shamanna was happy that opportunity is waiting for him in his house.
Then he remembered the problems of farmer and tree. He asked for solution. Elderly man said farmer's land is actually the mine of diamonds. If farmer dig out deep ,  he can find diamonds. And for the tree, the canal which was watering it, was broken by thieves to hide the stolen treasure. If it is removed then again the water will start flowing.
Shamanna was very happy that he found the solution for problems. He started to return. He met the farmer and said that his land is a diamond mine and if he dig the land, he will get diamonds. Farmer offered Shamanna to do the work and take the diamonds with him. But Shamanna refused ! He said he must return home as the opportunity is waiting for him there.
Then he met the tree and said that there is a stolen treasure in the water canal. If that is removed , water will start flowing as usual. Tree asked Shamanna to do the needy thing and take the treasure with him. But Shamanna refused saying that opportunity is waiting for him in his house.
Shamanna lost the 2 opportunities that had come on his way . He did a big mistake and stayed poor throughout his life.

What is TLC?

                                          What is TLC?

We have cable connection for our TV. We get around 86 channels. One of them was the channel named TLC . I often wondered why does the channel is having such a name?
Now I know TLC is the acronym.

TLC = The Learning Channel

Then I realized it is correctly named based on its telecasted programmes.

What is alternating current and direct current?

What is alternating current and direct current?

Electricity flows in 2 ways --- either as alternating current ( AC  ) or as direct current ( DC ).  Electricity or current is nothing more than the moving electrons along a conductor , that has been harnessed for energy . Therefore , difference between AC and DC has to do with the direction in which the electrons flow . In DC , electrons flow steadily in a single direction or forward . But in AC , electrons keep switching directions sometimes going forward and then going backwards.
Because of this , the frequency of AC is generally 50 Hz whereas the frequency of direct current is zero .The source of AC could be a AC generator or mains . But for DC , it is battery . Passive parameters of AC is impedance which consists of resistance , inductance and capacitance. But for DC , it is resistance only .
Power factor of AC lies between 0 and 1.
But for DC , it is always 1.
Why does the current flows in a single direction in DC ? A magnetic field near a wire causes electrons to get attracted towards positive side and get repelled towards negative side , thus flowing in a single direction steadily.
But AC is safer to transmit over a long distance and can provide more power. Instead of applying the magnetism along the wire steadily , the direction of magnet is changed periodically so does the direction of electrons as well.
But DC can be stored like in batteries but we can not store AC.

The reason for Ramayan

                                         The reason for Ramayan

Ramayan happened because King Dasharath's wife Kaikeyi wanted Sri Ram to go to forest and spend life there. But why did she made a plan like that?
King Dasharath had 3 wives namely ,
1. Kousalya
2. Sumitra
3. Kaikeyi
But the queens did not conceive. Hence , King Dasharath got a fruit from a saint and had been told that if queens eat the fruit , then they will conceive.
Dasharath had given the fruit pieces to his wives. Accordingly , Kousalya gave birth to Sri Ram who was the first among the children . Then Kaikeyi who had given birth to Bharath and Sumitra who had given birth to twins Laxman and Shatrugna.
But according to tradition , Sri Ram had crowned prince since he was the eldest . Bharath was the second among children. But Bharath's mother Kaikeyi had an ambition that her son must be the king. She might had thought that if Sri Ram was away from kingdom , the power will come automatically to her son Bharath who was immediate next to throne.
Because of this plan , Kaikeyi made Sri Ram to go to forest . But Sri Ram was ready to go , but her son Bharath refused to be crowned  as king . He had put Sri Ram's footwear on the chair and said that Sri Ram is the actual king and he is just ruling kingdom in his absence.
Likewise, he did. As soon as Sri Ram was back from forest, Bharath handed over the reins of administration to Sri Ram. In Sri Ram's administration , kingdom was often hailed as Rama Rajya .

ಮುಗಿಸಿ ಬಂದಿಹೆ ಅಜ್ಜನ  ಅಪರ ಕಾರ್ಯ ;
