Listen Carefully . . .

                                  Listen Carefully . . .

Ramappa is a well known person in the village. He is also the sarpanch of village. He is the owner of coconut farm , arecanut farm etc.  He is also having many acres of paddy fields too . We can say that he is a wealthy man.
Ramappa had a big room for collecting his ripe crops. He was collecting all the yield that he got in that room. Once he was seen by the villagers standing near the room , looking worried.
Fellow villagers asked him the reason. Ramappa explained ---- he had a large clock with him that he wanted to take it to house. As it was rainy season , he took a break and entered the room with the clock. He had put it in one corner and went to inspect the already got yield.
Finally , he has finished inspecting. But now he can not remember the place where he had kept the clock. Since the room is full , it is difficult for him to search and now he is worried that he has to wait till the room become empty.
Villagers assured him of their help and all of them started searching for clock. But it was in vain. It was becoming dark too. Hence they gave up their effort and consoled Ramappa that one or the other day , he will get back the clock.
All of them returned including Ramappa. Ramappa was cursing his bad luck. At that time, a small boy came near him and said him that he will find the clock. Ramappa was about to laugh . All the elder people have searched and they could not locate the place of clock and what can a small boy do? But small boy insisted and finally Ramappa agreed.
Small boy entered the room. It was now dark and surroundings are in silence. He switched on the lamp and was dumbfounded by seeing the yield which was collected there. Now even he was in doubt about his mission.
He didnt know what to do. He stood silently. He was observing the corners. Then came the sound Tic .... Tic...
It was very small voice of clock tickling. Small boy focused on that. He went in the direction of sound. There it was ... The clock.
He came outside the room holding the clock. Ramappa too was standing near the door of room. By seeing the boy and the clock in his hand , Ramappa was very happy.

The eyelash mite

                            The eyelash mite

Yes, these are the eyelash mites. They live in our eyelashes or eyebrows !
These are called Demodex . They are the tiny parasitic mites that live in or near the hair follicles of mammals.
They usually dont cause any harm , but occasionally some skin diseases can be caused by these mites. They are primarily found in the face , near the nose , the eyelashes and the eye brows. , but can occur elsewhere on the body too.
They eat the dead cells of body . We can see these mites by carefully removing eyelash or eyebrow hair and placing it under a microscope.
The dead mites decompose inside the hair follicle glands. Usually there is no harm but with the people of suppressed immune system , the population of mites may dramatically increase. .Characterized by itching or inflammation.

The countries which are not having military ...

The countries which are not having military ...

Nowadays , there is always a tension between two neighbouring countries regarding their borders like India and Pakistan or India and China. So, it is necessary to have military force which will protect our border from enemies.
But there are countries in the world, which dont have military force . Its a surprising fact.
They are -----

1. Panama
2. Mauritius
3. Iceland

Though, Japan also dont have military force , but it do have a section of soldiers. It sends the soldiers whenever UN ( United Nations ) asks for them.

Why does door shuts firmly during rainy season?

Why does door shuts firmly during rainy season?

I observed our front door nowadays shuts firmly. Otherwise , for small breeze also, it is flung open and it would be a open scene.
I know it always happens only in rainy season. During other season, we must latch it . But during rainy season , no need to latch it ! ( only during day time ) .
Since our front door is made of wood , I know this particular phenomena is called " Imbibition ".

What is Imbibition?

Imbibition is the absorption of water by hydrophilic substances. Like our front door which is made of wood.
This happens when dry seeds germinate.
During imbibition, a substance absorbs water or water content and swells . Because of this swelling of our front door , it shuts firmly opposite to its case , and much force is required to open it . But during summer, there is less water content in atmosphere  , hence it contracts.( comes to its original position ) . It happens when water content or moisture becomes less.

Why is the middle finger , longest finger ?

Why is the middle finger , longest finger ?

In our hand, the middle finger is the longest. To explain the reason, the experts themselves are having different opinions.
Some say it is for the balance , primary reason for its length. Some put forward the theory of  " geometry of closing ". It states that when the hand closes to form a fist , all the fingers touch the palm of the hand at the same time.
This way, when hand grasp an object , the fingers all share the work equally. Simply put, fingers of our hand differs in length , as this shape works so well.

Who is the great donor?

                                Who is the great donor?

Once Krishna and Arjun were chatting with each other. At that time, Krishna said he has not seen a donor as great as Karna.
This irked Arjun. He complained near Krishna , how can he praise Karna who is in enemy side? Krishna said he will prove it.
Krishna created  mountain full of gold and diamonds. He showed the mountain to Arjun and challenged him " can he give away all the gold and diamonds to people by evening ?". Arjun agreed for the challenge.
Soon there was an announcement from Arjun that he is donating gold and diamonds to people.  People can use the offer.
People thronged to the site where Arjun stood. Arjun started digging the mountain to give away the gold and diamond.
By evening, crowd was empty. But mountain was half empty. Arjun came near Krishna and accepted his defeat saying that he could not completely empty the mountain. Krishna smiled and gave the same task to Karna.
Karna also did the announcement in town. But with a difference. People can take gold and diamond as much as they want , by digging !
By evening , the mountain of gold and diamond is empty !
No prize for guessing who is the great donor and why ? Small change in the words we use, can make a big impact .

Life is , as we see it !

Life is , as we see it !

In a village, there was a house. It was famous for having 1000 mirrors all at one place ! People were talking about the house again and again.
In the same village , lived a dog who was always depressed. For small and negligible thing also , he will become depressed and used to think that world is like that . He was thinking that everyone in the world are like him.
One day , he heard about the house. Curious, he wanted to have a look. He entered the house. To his horror, suddenly he saw 1000 dogs who are just like him, depressed. Looking at them, he left the place thinking that world is full of depressed people.
There was a stray dog . It is always in jolly mood. He followed the above said , depressed dog. He saw the depressed dog leaving the house , looking more depressed. He wanted to have a look too.
He entered the house. He was greeted by 1000 dogs who were looking as jolly as him. By seeing them , he jumped with joy.
He left the house being more happier than earlier.

Its rainy season , no one is on the road !

Its rainy season , no one is on the road !

I always sit near the window of our house which faces the road . As our place itself is in a quieter area , when rain comes , it is almost empty !
I always like to see people hurriedly walking when the rain comes . If a person dont have umbrella, then his condition is a good one to watch.
No one can tell when the rain will start. If a person leaves his house , thinking that rain had stopped pouring in , there it comes. !
Our area is always having various birds and animals as visitors. But now no one dares to come out because of rain. Including me .
But what ever happens, there is always a visitor . It will not ask for any one's permission to enter house. I guess it had made our house itself as its house. !
Its none other than MOSQUITO .
Whatever be the force through which rainfall is occurring.  Mosquitoes are always there., sucking my blood. In the night , I switch on mosquito repellent machine. But what to do for morning mosquitoes ?! Some one is always with me .

What causes the smell after first rain?

What causes the smell after first rain?

Most of us must have noticed a distinctive smell in the air after it rains. It happens with first rain. We can find it in poetry too . But what causes it?
It can be caused by many things. But most common reason is because of bacteria!
Actinomycetes , a type of filamentous bacteria , grow in soil when whether conditions are warm. When the soil dries out, bacteria produces spores in the soil.
The wetness and force of the rainfall make these spores to get disperse in the atmosphere. The moist air easily carries these spores to us , as we breathe.
These bacteria are very common through out the world.

Pre-occupation of mind

                               Pre-occupation of mind

We always see elephants in temple premises.. The elephant is large enough , I mean grown up. It 's feet are tied by a rope. If it wish, it can break free that rope and can get its freedom back. But it will not do anything . I am talking about he animal having fine mental condition.

But why is it like that ?

It is because of pre- occupied mind. Pre - occupied mind is that mind is already been tuned to some fact. Let us consider the case of above said elephant.
According to me, this elephant in its childhood days must had been tied by metal rope . It is to see that elephant calf must not run away and create havoc.
In its childish mood , I am very sure it must had been tried to run breaking all the barriers. But as it is tied by metal rope which is very difficult to break, its efforts must had been gone in vain.
But it remembered the incident . Now it has been adjusted to its life of being a captive . Hence, now after growing up too , its feet are tied by rope ; it will not attempt to break free and run away. Because the feeling is in its mind that it is difficult to run away.

MORAL : In our life too , we are pre occupied or biased by many things and think ourselves as not having that ability. But if we wish , we can do wonders.

Why are rainbows are curved as semicircles?

Why are rainbows are curved as semicircles?

Rainbow is a product of sunlight passing through tiny droplets of rain water. How do we see a rainbow?
All the angles in the water drop have to be just right for the drop to send some sunlight to back to us, standing on ground.
The angle may be approximately 42 degrees. Other droplets send their light to some where else. To make it simple, if we move to some new place , different droplets are required to make the rainbow visible. The rainbow may seem in semi circular shape , if the Sun is rising or setting. It may look  less than a semicircle shape if the Sun is higher on the sky.
We can see a rainbow in full circle if we travel in a plane or when we produce it artificially in the laboratories.

FRCS and FRCP

                             FRCS and FRCP

We can see outside a doctor's shop, his name containing the suffixes FRCS or FRCP. But what are these? These are not the degrees awarded to doctor.

FRCS = Fellow of Royal College of Surgeons
FRCP = Fellow of Royal College of Physicians.

FRCS is awarded by Royal College of Surgeons of England , which is an independent body and registered charity. It is committed to promoting and advancing the highest standards of surgical care to patients. The correct way of addressing a fellow is not to say Dr but just Mr or Ms.

FRCP is awarded by Royal College of Physicians of London. It is British professional body of doctors of general medicine and its sub specialties.

My money saving tip

                                 My money saving tip

It is the time of inflation. Everything is costly.
We start our day by brushing our teeth. What if one day morning, we observe that there is no toothpaste in the tube if we squeeze also.
In a frustration, we plan to buy a new tube.
But what we think is an empty tube of paste, still holds up to 15 % of toothpaste ! So, how to make best use of it ?
First, put the empty tubes ( as we have thought , by realizing paste is not coming out of tube ) in hot water for 2 minutes. Then if we squeeze the tube, we can get the paste!
We can also adopt the idea of cutting the empty tube in the middle. If we roll the tooth brush inside the half cut part, we can use the toothpaste which is not got by squeezing.

Udupi-Manipal road

                                     Udupi-Manipal road

Now , Udupi - Manipal road has changed a lot.

My findings ------

1. Earlier , Udupi- Manipal  road was the best example for narrow road. Houses were very near to the road. Drainage system was not good. Moreover , city bus of this road comes on this road . also another bus on opposite direction , pedestrians must vacate the road by jumping into the drainage paths.
But now, roads have become wider . Not a single pot holes are seen on the road. Drainage paths are also modified. But still , pedestrians cant walk on foot path . Because, roads have become wider and buses will pass on the road so fast that even our outstretched hand or foot may get amputated if care is not taken !
2 . Earlier. people used to trust each other . But now , people look at others suspiciously eventhough both are from same place.
3 . Earlier , houses with tiles on the roof are characteristics of this road. But now , the sites which are adjacent to road have been converted into big shopping malls or apartments. Now , no house with tiles on its roof could be seen on the road.

But still , I like the place .

In the news, for wrong reasons

In the news, for wrong reasons

I am talking about Manipal. Manipal is the international education place. But now it is in news for wrong reasons.
I agree that whatever has happened , it has brought a bad name for Manipal. I was in  Udupi when the bad incident had happened.
There were protests all over Udupi when people especially students had come to know of it. Since the victim is a student , there were protests by students asking for justice.
I was the student studied in Manipal. As it is shown in news channels, there is nothing like that in Manipal. When a person enters into higher education stream, the syllabus is not covered by a single text book. Students must refer many text books regarding the knowledge about a subject.
Our college too , had a vast library extended in 3 floors. When exams are nearing , libraries are open till late night.
Students who like to attain more knowledge about a subject , could sit in library and study. In Manipal, most students are staying in hostels which are very near to college. There are college buses too. But if students opt to stay outside the college premises, problem arises.
But honestly speaking, I didnt experience any thing.

WHY ?

Reason is very simple. I was not staying in hostel. I was aware of the fact that libraries are open till midnight  But I didnt use that .
As I am quite smart, I have adopted the habit of studying in early morning. Hence to complete the sleep cycle, my eyelids are shutting down around 9.00 PM.
I used to get up early ! At that time, surroundings will be in silence and it is the perfect time to study with concentration.
But I felt bad when people said hate words about Manipal. People here are well behaved. Some thing was wrong some where.
But Manipal is the best place to study .
