How do ants smell ?

Wherever we keep sweets , ants will soon find out the location .

Ants have a poor eyesight. They use their antennae to smell and also for communication.

They release a chemical called pheromone which has different smells. This help them to trace their way back , recognizing between friends and foes .

The ant's sensors are located in their antennae. The antennae are covered with hair like structures , which are the receptors for senses.

Once an ant finds a food source , it leave a pheromone tail as it makes its way back to the nest . The other ants will trace the way until the food source is located.

All ants will not use the same pheromone scent to locate the food. The scent is unique for each ant's nest . By this way , other ants from the same nest locate the food.
