Pascal's principle and its illustration

What is Pascal's principle?

In engineering, we come across the subject of Hydraulics very often. Hydraulics is mainly based on Pascal's principle.

It states that " When there is increase in the pressure at any point of a confined fluid ( liquid or gas ) , there is equal increase in the pressure at every other point ".

Now to illustrate this, we take a container having water in it. In the first try, we will put external pressure at the bottom of container. We make a note of it.

Similarly, we measure the value of pressure in middle and at the top of container. Now we are putting the pressure at the bottom of container. But the readings at middle level and at the top of the container also points to same value as that of bottom level.

Thus, it shows pressure is uniformly distributed across the fluid.
