The story behind name Kumbhasi

                                                       The story behind name Kumbhasi

Kumbhasi is a town situated in the road connecting Udupi and Kundapur. Kumbhasi is popular because of the Ganesh Temple . Kumbhasi got its name because of Ganesh.
In Kumbhasi, Sage Gautam lived. That time, a demon named Kumbhasur was very notorious for his ill works. Pandavas  had been  cheatingly sent to forest. At that time, they were supposed to pass through Kumbhasi. At that time, Sage Gautam met them and said his problem with them.
Eldest of Pandavas, Yudhistira  asked his brother Bhim to look into the problem. Bhim and Kumbhasura had a big fight. But Bhim could not defeat Kumbhasur since demon was powerful. Worried Bhim discussed the problem with his supporters.
Then Sage Gautam said if Bhim pray to God Ganesh then it is easy to defeat the demon. Similarly, Bhim prayed to Ganesh. Ganesh gave him powerful ammunition . With the help of those, Bhim was able to kill the demon. That place is Kumbhasi.
