First Indian queen to fight for freedom from British in India

This year we are celebrating 71st year of our independence  . Here is the article on first Indian queen who fought against British rulers.

Rani Velu Nachiyar was the queen of Shivaganga estate in India. She was the first queen to fight against British colonial power. She fought successfully with British in 1780 .

Rani Nachiyar was trained in war match weapons usage , horse riding and archery. She was a scholar in many languages too.

When her husband got killed by British soldiers , she was drawn into battle. She formed an army and sought alliance with other kings.

When Velu Nachiyar found the place where the British stored their ammunition , she arranged a suicide bomber attack.

A faithful follower of hers , doused herself in oil , set herself alight and walked into the storehouse. Thus ensuring victory for Velu Nachiyar.
