Mustard war

                                         Mustard war

This is not the name given to the quarrel between women for mustard to use while cooking ! This is the chemical weapon used in days of world war 1.
The sulphur mustards are commonly known as mustard gas .These gas have ability to form large blisters on the exposed skin and in the lungs.

Why these are called mustard?

Pure sulphur mustards are colourless. But when used in impure form , such as warfare agents , they have an odour resembling mustard plants , hence the name.
Sulphur mustard has the chemical formula (Cl -CH2CH2)2S
It is first used by the German troops. Nowadays , it is also used as chemotherapy drug.
