Koun Banega Karodpati question

Koun Banega Karodpati program is being telecasted on the tv.

In yesterday episode, I found this in question.

If you drop a hammer and feather from the same height and at the same time on moon, which of these is correct ?

1. Hammer and feather both of them will float into space.

2. Hammer will reach the ground surface first.

3. Feather will reach the ground surface first.

4. Both of them reach the ground surface at the same time.

Before knowing the answer , we need to know about the moon.

Moon is the natural satellite of the earth.

Moon don't have atmosphere. This means no air on moon.

Gravitational force of moon is weak compared to gravitational force of earth.

Gravity of moon is 1/6 the of gravity of earth.

Now let us imagine the same condition on earth. We have atmosphere as well as air..

When something is falling down, this air offers friction. Hence when we drop feather and hammer, hammer reaches ground before feather.

Feather reaches slowly to ground as air offers friction as it is light weight. But for the hammer only gravity acts on it.

On earth, if dropped from same height and at the same time, hammer rearches ground first.

Let's move to moon now.

As explained earlier, moon don't have air on it. So no friction force. Only gravity is acting on falling object.

That's why both hammer and feather reaches surface of moon at the same time.

If there were no gravity on moon, both of them would have floating in space if dropped down.
