Lesser known facts about Red Fort, Delhi

 Tomorrow is 79th Independence day.

On our Independence Day, our Prime Minister hoists the tri colour flag at Red Fort.

Here are some lesser known facts  -----

1.  Red Fort was built by Mughal ruler Shah Jahan.

2.  Red Fort was initially white as it was built by limestones. But when the British saw fading white, they painted it red  !!!!

3.  In Mughal era, invaders approaching can be heard clearly in certain chambers !!!!

4. Yamuna river used to flow right next to fort.

5. Legends say there is a secret tunnel connecting red fort to Agra fort designed as an emergency escape route.
