US president Trump and his Russian counterpart Putin were holding discussion about ending the war between Russia and Ukraine in the absence of Ukraine !!!
USA and Russia had selected Alaska to hold discussion.
But why Alaska ???
Russia colonized and controlled Alaska in mid 18th century to until Russia has sold Alaska to USA in 1867.
Russian control over Alaska was part of its border exploration and colonization effort in North American continent.
But later, Russia started facing financial difficulties and it wanted to alleviate some economic burden.
Russia was concerned that British might seize Alaska.
Alaska was a remote territory that was hard for Russia to defend and administer effectively.
Russia didn't see Alaska as high valuable territory at that time.
Hence, Russia sold Alaska to USA in 1867 for $7.5 million.
