Since it is the rainy season, river Yamuna has been swelling in parts of Uttar Pradesh, flooding the areas.
But Tajmahal in Agra seems to be protected.
How has this monument stayed unharmed despite being so close to the river ??
When Tajmahal was built, Agra was the capital of Mughal empire.
As Tajmahal was built in memory of King Shahjahan 's wife, Tajmahal is clearly seen from Agra fort where the King resided.
The place where the Tajmahal is built is situated in a specific bend of river.
This bend helps reduce direct impact from flowing water and protects the river bed from soil erosion.
Tajmahal is built on high red sandstone platform which raises the building well above the usual water level.
This elevation along with natural curve of the river has helped the monument, survive without major water damages for centuries together !!!
