September 13 was the day of Krishna janmashtami in udupi. The next day i.e. September 14 is the day of vitlapindi in udupi.
Yesterday I watched the vitlapindi programs live on t.v. thanks to our cable operator. I was speechless by watching the programs. Though I watch vitlapindi programs , I was watching only till the programs get over in Rajaangana , the place where the Krishna mutt people arrange the programs.
But yesterday , I was watching the programs held at Anna Vittala Vedike . These programs are sponsored by Shiroor Mutt Seer. The program started with Mara kaalu kunita meaning dancing with wooden leg tied to normal human leg.
Then came different raakshasa vesha. These raakshasas got killed by Lord Sri Krishna in his childhood. Krishna used to play his divine plays called leela. To remember that, people recreate his leela and enjoy.
How I can forget the famous huli vesha ? There were many teams present. These teams exhibit acrobatic exercises too. It is a delight to watch as they perform. What came as a surprise to me was someone had put the vesha of Kattappa from the movie baahubali !
There were some people who had put different veshas taking lots of trouble, to collect the money so that they can help the needy and poor people. Now that is celebrating the festival with a unique purpose.
Actors from Tulu cinema industry had graced the occasion. It was a lovely evening. I have to wait for next year to watch all these once again ......
