Story from Tulunadu

                                           Story from Tulunadu

Long ago, in Tulunadu( Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts) there lived a couple named Koosappa and Sesi. For many years they didnt have any siblings. They prayed to deity Panjurli. Thus born a girl child named Lakshmi. Sesi was very happy.
She decided to celebrate the occasion by inviting their relatives to house. Sesi decided to make jack fruit gidde which is famous in this region. She told Koosappa to go to forest and fetch leaves which are required in preparing gidde.
Koosappa went to forest and found the perticular tree. But leaves are not reachable from ground level. Hence ,he decided to climb the tree. He didnt notice a lion was watching his every step. When he was about to get down, he saw the lion.
Lion said if he surrenders his child Laxmi to it, it will allow him to get down. Koosappa had other way out, agreed for that condition. After reaching house, he told everything to his wife Sesi. Sesi started crying. At that time, Koosappa had an idea.
After several weeks, lion came to Koosappa's house. It remembered him the promise he had made. Then Koosappa showed lion a way to room and said Lakshmi is inside the room. Lion went inside the room. There was Lakshmi lied down covered with a white blanket. Sesi was crying in corner. Lion asked the reason with Sesi. Sesi replied Lakshmi died because of high fever and she is crying because Koosappa had gone to perform  last rites.
Lion went in search of Koosappa. It found Koosappa in the cemetry  igniting a flame. It asked with Koosappa the truth. When Koosappa replied positively, lion jumped to ignited flame and died. Koosappa came back to home and was happy that his drama was successfull.
