Story of Ashtavakra

                                          Story of Ashtavakra

It was the time, when King Janaka was ruling. In his kingdom, there was a sage by name Uddhalaka. His profession was teaching. In his school, there was a student named Kahoda. He was intelligent. Uddhalaka got married his daughter Sujata to Kahoda.
Now Sujata is pregnant. One day, Kahoda was chanting some words. Then a voice said him that his pronounciation is not right. Kahoda looked everywhere. But could not find anyone. But he again heard the voice. It was of the still to be born his child.
Kahoda was very angry. He thought this child now itself, pinpointing his weakness. Hence he cursed the child to born with abnormalities. His curse was true. Child born with abnormalities. Hence he was named as Ashtavakra (having 8 types of abnormalities}.
Ashtavakra was very intelligent and studious. One day, there was a competition in King's court. Whoever will lose in competition, they have to accept his defeat and must immerse himself in water. Being knowing this condition. Kahoda participated and lost.
As per condition, he accepted his defeat, and got immersed in water. Back home, everyone was waiting the arrival of Kahoda. But he never returned. Then, they came to know of truth. Ashtavakra decided to get his father back. He went to participate in competition.
Ashtavakra won in competition.  And he got his father back from water also. Ashtavakra taught the King some ideas to achieve happiness. They are famous as "Ashtavakra Geeta"
