The story of saint Agasthya

                                     The story of saint Agasthya

According to Hindus, there are seven great saints. Among them, Agasthya is also one. Here is the story explaining how he has got his name.
In ancient India, Saint Agasthya was living in northeren part. There is Mount Vindhya seperating north and south India. The persons who wants to travel across country, have to pass through this mountain. But there was a problem. Mount Vindhya was growing day by day.
It had become so much  tall that now it has become difficult for Sun and Moon to complete their daily routine. Hence they requested Agasthya to find a solution for this. Agasthya agreed  to help. He went near Mount Vindhya. By seeing its tallness, Agasthya was dumbfunded.
He said to mountain Vindhya that now he wants to go to South India. It would be difficult for him to cross the mountain if it continue growing. Thats why he requested mountain not to grow till he returns. Mountain agreed. Agasthya crossed mountain and came to south india.
He stayed near Nasik in Maharashtra . He didnt return to his original place. Mountain Vindhya stopped growing and it is still waiting for the saint to return as it has promised him. Aga means mountain in Sanskrit and Stha means person who has stopped it.. Agasthya stopped growing of mountain hence he got the name Agasthya.
