Why are man hole covers , round?
We always see manholes near the road side. Their covers usually will be in round shape. I must say always. Now the question comes , why not other shape?
The round man hole cover can not fall through its circular opening, whereas a square manhole cover may fall in , if it were inserted diagonally in the hole.
A round man hole cover has a smaller surface than the square one. Thus less material is required to manufacture , resulting in less cost.
Circular covers do not need to be rotated to align in the manhole. they will be naturally heavy , so that traffic passing over them can not lift them.
Circular covers are easy to roll , so they can be easily moved from one place to another.
