What is the difference between hurricane and cyclone ??

Today morning, when I was watching international news,  one news was "  Hurricane Melissa wreck havoc in  Mexico ".

I came to know that trees were uprooted, houses got damaged and streets were inundated.

I thought same thing happened in coast of Andhra Pradesh because of cyclone Montha  !!!!

Ours is cyclone, why theirs is hurricane ???!!!

What is the difference between two ??

BOTH ARE SAME   !!!!

The terms " hurricane "  and  " cyclone  " are regional names for tropical cyclones .

All tropical cyclones are alike in that they draw heat from warm waters at ocean's surface to power horizontal and rotating winds.

Over Atlantic and East Pacific, tropical cyclones are called "  hurricanes   ".

Over West Pacific,  they are called  "  typhoons  ".

Over Indian ocean and Australia, they are called  "  cyclones  ".
