How did God Sri Ram get his name , Ramachandra?
The name Ramachandra refer to Sri Ram. About the origin of name , there are 2 stories.
1st story :
Sri Ram was a baby . His mother Kousalya was trying to feed him. It was the time of night. Baby Ram was not at all agreeing to eat food.
That time, Kousalya did a plan. She came outside with the baby. It was the full moon day. As all mothers do , even Kousalya showed moon ( chandra ) to baby . Seeing the moon glowing on sky , Ram smiled and started eating the food.
Since then , Ram got the name of Ramachandra .
2nd story :
When Ram was born , all the devas had come to see him as he is the part of Lord Vishnu himself. But moon or chandra could not come as it was the time of evening . It is his duty time. He was very upset because of this.
Ram had come to know about it and he consoled chandra saying that from that day onwards , moon will be always with him . Thus he got the name Ramachandra .
