The birth of Parikshit
The Mahabharat war was over. Pandavas had killed each and every Kouravas and their army. Duryodhan too was lying on floor with a wound on his lap and he never can get up.... Pandavas thought like that and left the battle field leaving their sons and army to take rest....
But disaster was waiting. Ashwatthama , son of Drona who is also the friend of Duryodhan was still alive and he came to see Duryodhan. By seeing Duryodhan's plight, he was very saddened and vowed to finish Pandavas.
But in daylight, he can not defeat Pandavas and take revenge. Thats why he chose night time and went to battle field. There he saw 5 people are sleeping in the tent. Ashwatthama was very angry and thinking them as Pandavas , he killed each one of them.
But he was wrong. They were not Pandavas but their 5 sons , Upapandavas. When Ashwatthama realised his mistake, it was too late. Now he was sure that Pandavas will be hunting for him. He hid in Saint Vedavyasa's ashram.
Pandavas came there too. Ahwatthama had only one plan . That is to promote Brahmastra . He started chanting the words. By seeing him doing that, Arjun did the same. Vedavyasa came to know of this and requested Arjun to take back the weapon for safety of world.
Arjun nodded his head and took it back. Now it is Ashwatthama's turn. But he knew only to use , not to take it back. Brahmastra will not return without destruction.
Ashwatthama had a sinister plan. He can not kill Pandavas now, why not their grandson?! He deviated the Brahmastra to Uttara's womb.
Uttara is Abhimanyu's wife and daughter-in-law of Arjun. She was pregnant at that time. Brahmastra did its work and killed her child in womb itself.
As a result, she gave birth to dead child. She was all crying by seeing her still born dead child. Krishna stepped in and with his powers , had given life to child.
He is Parikshit and he became the next ruler after Pandavas.
