The Stroop effect is a phenomenon that occurs when the name of a colour doesn't match with the colour in which it is printed.
It demonstrates the interference between automatic process of readily words and controlled task of identifying colour.
Stroop effect refers to the delayed reaction time when the colour of the word doesn't match with the name of the word.
For example,
When we ate supposed to read a word red printed on blue ink, we have to actively suppress the urge tto read word red and instead focus on the colour of ink which is blue.
This effect is used to study cognetive processes like attention, inhibition and processing speed.
It is also used to study mental disorders like dementia and depression.
