Differences between turtle and tortoise

 1.  Tortoises are land dwelling reptiles with heavy and domed shells while

        Turtles are aquatic or semi aquatic.

2.  Tortoises are herbivores 

      Turtles are omnivores 

3.   All tortoises are turtles

      But all turtles are not tortoises 

4.   Tortoises have longer lifespans 

       Turtles have comparatively shorter ones

5.  Tortoises have column like legs to support their weight on land.

      Turtles have adapted themselves for swimming.
