Red sand that we can eat !!!

We all know about Strait of Hormuz which is now blocked by Iran thereby making the oil and gas supply to the world difficult.

But here I am not talking about strait of Hormuz  !!!

I am talking about Hormuz island which has one of the most unique beaches in the world which is known as " blood beach ".

The sand on Hormuz beach takes on a deep red shade due to high iron oxide content.

This mineral rich soil gives the coast line its blood red appearance  !!!!

Locals refer to this sand as " gelak  ".

Its pigmentation is so intense that it can stain the skin for days  !!!

Some sand grains even react to magnets.

This sand is a critical ingredient of Iranian cuisine.

No.....   No........

Residents don't eat this sand in its powdary form  !!!

Rather they use it as a spice.........

This sand is also used in dyeing fabrics and colouring pottery.
