We all have tried to catch a butterfly sitting on flower in childhood.
We catch the butterfly by its folded wings.
When we release the butterfly, we kave observed some type of powder on our fingers which were used to capture it.
What is this powder ???
Butterfly 's wings are made up of incredibly thin membranes.
These membranes are covered with thousands of tiny scales.
These are the extension of single cell.
The powdery substance that rubs off , are these scales.
They give vibrant colours to the wings and also offer protection.
