Why do bananas get blackened as they age?

Unless mishandled, we can see that bananas become black skinned as they ripe or age. If they are untouched, then also the process occurs.

The hormone which is found in the skin of banana, Ethylene , transforms a green banana into appealing yellow colour of fruit . Ethylene continues the ripening process and eventually turn banana into black colour.

If we place banana in refrigerator , in order to keep it away from getting blackened, it goes black prematurely !

I had tried this and got a good scolding from my mother.
