Everyone is familiar with the sight of cat chasing mice thanks to tom and jerry cartoon series. But this story explains the reason for their rivalrly.

Long ago, cats and mice are friends. Both were working near a King. Cat is assigned the job of taking care of kitchen . Mice are doing small works capable to their size. There was a mouse who is very poor. He was working in the palace.

This mouse fell in love with a good looking female mouse. To impress her, he thought of giving some presents to her. But he is poor. He could not afford costly items. He was thinking. His eyes fell on royal kitchen. Cat had gone for a tea-break.

Mouse sneaked inside the kitchen. There a new world unfolded infront of him. Many types of dishes were there. He ate some of them. They were tasty. But to give them as present to his girl friend is not a good idea. They may give rise to suspicion because of their smell.

But he want to give his girl friend a nice present. Then he found a bag consisting of various dry fruits. If he is able to carry them with him,then no one can make out. His girl friend will also like them. He took some of them and filled his pockets with them.

He went out of kitchen. He met his girl friend and offered the dry fruits. She was overwhelmed. She asked where did he get this stuff? Mouse replied his relative had come from city and with him, he brought all this stuff. Girl friend liked them .

Seeing his girlfriend's happiness, mouse brought some more. Like this day by day he used to bring. Cat was not aware of this theft as mouse was doing the theft in night. At the month end, cat was checking the goods. To his horror, dry fruit bag had become almost empty.

King heard the news. He called cat and wanted to know the reason. Cat was not able to answer since he himself doesnt know the reason. King fired cat from work. This agitated cat and it decided that it must know the cause of this scam.

Likewise, he kept an eye on kitchen throughout night. Around midnight, cat saw a mouse sneaking inside the kitchen. Mouse caried a bag full of dry fruits when he returned from kitchen. Now cat was very sure that the mouse is the thief. He chased the mouse. He retrieved the bag of stolen goods from him. In a worry that he lost his royal job because of mouse, cat killed mouse and ate it.

From that day onwards, cats cant stand the sight of mice since they have lost their royal job because of them. They chase mice and as a revenge they kill them and  eat them.
