How does a barometer predicts outcome of rain?

How does a barometer predicts outcome of rain?

Before the answer, why are barometers used ?

A barometer measures air pressure. Hence, a " rising " barometer indicates the increase in air pressure and " falling " barometer indicates decrease in air pressure.
Air pressure is different at different points of earth and it changes over time. We know that hot air is lighter than cooler air. What does it mean? The air pressure over a desert is lower compared to the air pressure of polar regions.
From this, we can predict that high pressure area will be clear and lower air pressure will be cloudy and rainy.

Suppose, what if the reading of a barometer suddenly falls?

It is the precaution for heavy rainfall ! Since it indicates the depression in that area.
